The Shrinking Cadbury Egg.

You may have noticed that Cadbury Creme Eggs are a bit smaller this year. The Cadbury website denies it, saying the size of the egg hasn’t changed. But BJ Novak of the TV show The Office appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and presented proof! Push play or go to YouTube. -via YesButNoButYes

I can't believe they insist it hasn't changed! They lost an awful lot of sales to me because of this size change, blast 'em. I usually stock up on those babies this time of year, but they just aren't as satisfying in the smaller size. Grrrrrr.

I save wrappers and can definitely say that they changed from 1.38 ounces to 1.2 ounces this year. (Well, I also reviewed them last year and the new orange one this year and did notice the difference.)

I don't necessarily mind that they got a little smaller, but the note on their website is disingenuous.

Oh, wait, I just noticed that the website is the UK version. The eggs that we eat here in the States are made by license by Hershey's. There's no mention of the change on the Hershey's/Cadbury site.

The point is not really in the size, itself, to me... it's the shape. The experience of eating them used to be just right - almost a little sexual in its level of sensuality. Yes, the amount of sugar was near coma-inducing, but you could break open the thick chocolate, fit your tongue inside the egg to scoop out the cream, and then the remaining shell pieces would be curved just about right to fit between tongue and roof of the mouth, and melt there, delivering the full-mouth smooth Cadbury's mega-chocolate experience. That sudden 12% decrease in size has made the curves too tight, and the chocolate too thin to be all that satisfying as a multi-sensory experience. Even if the recipe hasn't changed, it was never really all about the flavor, by itself. As a result, I've only eaten two this year, and I think I may be off them for good, now. *sigh* Blast you, Hershey's, for messing with perfection!!! *shakes fist in the air* Oh well. Guess I'm eating healthier this year.

Is this a us only problem? here in canada the eggs are the same size they always were... but I think they don't manufacture them at the same place, since the wrapping is different.

I agree, the lie about me getting bigger is just insulting. I ate the last one ever this year, since I don't like being both ripped off and played for a fool.

This reminds me to the New Coke crap back in the 80's just to slip us classic coke with corn syrup instead of sugar. I hasn't been the same since.

According to wikipedia, the eggs did decrease in size by 12.3%, but only in the US. So write letters to the Hershey company and maybe they'll switch it back to the bigger size for next year.

Lady Cooper -> The wrapper hasn't changed, I meant it was different from the US version In the video, it has blue and a little green in it, instead of the canadian wrapper which is just purple, red and yellow. But that may be just because of the quality of the video.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure they haven't changed in size, on a box of 3 I bought a little before easter, it says 1.38oz ^^

These kinds of things are more common than you think - it's basically a way to increase the cost of goods without actually increasing the price (less of the product at same price = greater profit).

My biggest complaint is dishwashing liquid: they give you less liquid (more sudsing action! same cleaning power! concentrated solution!) for the same price or slightly less, knowing full well people will squirt the same amount onto their dishes.
