Self-Assembling Battery.

Alex

MIT material science professor Yet-Ming Chiang and colleagues have designed electrode and electrolyte materials can assemble themselves into useful structures, like a battery.

"Ultimately, the goal is just to chuck a bunch of stuff into a bucket and have it self-assemble into a battery," says Jeff Dahn, professor of chemistry and physics at Dalhousie University, in Canada. Chiang's work creating a prototype self-assembling battery is "really nice science," Dahn says. "Just the fact that you can do it is pretty cool."

And please be sure to pay extra attention to the beautiful music by true genius Adrian Belew. He's one of those "ought to be a household name" guys. In addition to his own magnificent solo career he's played with David Bowie, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Talking Heads, Laurie Anderson, Joan Armatrading, and dozens of others I failed to remember in the past ten seconds. Piper marks his first foray into film scoring, and it's wonderful.
