This was a great article. I'm continually amazed at how much imaginary money exists in our economy. I suppose if our economy was simply based on the wealth of our nation's resources (which is technically the only value it should have), it would seem a lot less majestic, but it also would be a lot more stable.
OK, I can buy that the land tide exists, but why would it have anything to do with the full moon? Shouldn't the tides fluctuate twice daily, like the ocean tides? Unless you are saying that the maximum high tide would be at full moon.
Get ready for the people who swear they have a friend who knows someone who named their kid (pick one): Placenta, Female, Oranjello and Lemonjello (twins), Ampersand, and the like. THey usually pop up around posts like these.
This is why pigeons seem to leave it until the very last second to fly out of the way of an oncoming car: it appears much less fast to them.
I doubt that's the reason. People and animals has an innate and instinctual sense of physics and calculus (that's why you can do things like catch an object thrown at you, even if you don't consciously understand the math of an object in flight). Having more frames per second isn't going to make something appear to be going at a different velocity. If it did, pigeons would be very uncoordinated, because their sense of physics would be off.
Probably it has to do with the fact that more frames per second = more information = a better sense of exactly how fast the car is going and how long until the pigeon needs to fly away.
Also, though I know little about French, I have a feeling that the writing works better in its native language.
Besides, shouldn't a novel be more like a field of wildflowers? If I want a nice, cultivated literary garden, I'll go read a poem.
