The strangeness of the Kung Fu film known as “Demon of the Lute” goes well beyond language barriers and cultural idioms. This movie is downright nutty, even the YouTube description sounds crazy:

Bear witness to Yuan Fei’s heroic struggle against the soulless ginger, Red Haired Evil, and his logic-defying pal, Eagle Man. Shazam!

Isn’t it nice to get a little craziness mixed in with our martial arts action once in a while? I, for one, love the Red Haired Evil’s magnetic personality, and to say he’s having a bad hair day is an understatement.

One reason Amazon.com has been such a succes has been its massive inventory;  they stock just about everything you could ever need. As it happens, they also stock quite a few items that, well let’s just say that I’m not quite sure who the target market is supposed to be. Cat butt magnets, for instance. Available in “multicolored,” “entrepreneur,”  and “cat butt” color schemes.

Suppose I were to tell you that wasn’t even close to the weirdest thing available from Amazon?  You doubt me?

Our pal mental_floss has 10 examples of innocuous names that turned out to have quite unfortunate acronyms. For example:

In 2009, the Wisconsin Tourism Federation’s biggest problem wasn’t finding a way to attract more people to the metropolitan Kenosha area; it was the realization that its initials mirrored the slang abbreviation for “What the F—?” The WTF from America’s Dairyland has been around since 1979, so it likely predates the vulgar WTF. In the end, though, you can’t fight an internet meme. The organization changed its name to the Tourism Federation of Wisconsin.

The WTF’s only consolation must be that it’s not alone. In 2008, the North Carolina DMV allowed drivers whose license plates contained “WTF” to swap out their tags free of charge. The DMV also had to change its website; the sample plate pictured on the site was “WTF-5505.”

This spectrum (I take it) is supposed to classify Internet memes by whether they provoke OMG or WTF reactions by netizens — and all gradations in between. Bacon vodka, for example would be OMG, whereas human-eating robots would be WTF.
