Every father wants their son's new life in marriage to start right, and Zhang Cheng of Jiangsu province, China, is no different. That's why he hired wedding strippers for his son's nuptial:

The man, Zhang Cheng, had initially planned to invite a "trumpet band" to liven up his son's wedding, but was eventually turned onto a performance troupe which Zhang had been told contains certain "special features."

After watching the show, Zhang decided it would be appropriate for his son's wedding and requested two strippers for the event.

The show proved a bit too public for comfort, however, and barely five minutes had passed before hundreds of villagers in the conservative community were swarming the venue, trying to catch a glimpse.

Before they say yes to the dress, a growing number of Indians are saying yes to "wedding detectives":

Agencies say they've seen a huge rise in pre-matrimonial investigations to check a suitor's background, because more people are meeting online and families are less involved.

"It's not spying, we just wanted to know about my sister's boyfriend before she married him," says Anita (not her real name). She hired a private investigator to verify her now brother-in-law's background. Her sister met and fell in love with him at work, but Anita and her parents wanted to "authenticate" his family's status and finances before the wedding went ahead.

She enlisted the services of one of India's many pre-matrimonial detective agencies, which spent a month drawing up a report into his earnings, family history and past relationships, among other things.

"He told us he was from a good family, but we needed to ensure he was telling the truth.

"Earlier in India with arranged marriages which were set up by the family, relatives would know about a partner, but now you don't know if he's married or has children or whatever, so we needed to hire someone to check all this," says Anita, adding her still-happily-married sister never knew about the detectives.

Shawn spent an entire year getting ready to throw a surprise wedding for Colleen, and make everything exactly the way she wanted it to be. No detail was overlooked. Yes, it’s fetching, and there’s a real story behind this dress, as well. The parachute saved the life of pilot Maj. Claude Hensinger when he bailed out of his disabled B-29 over Japan in 1944. It was his blanket and pillow as he waited for rescue. In 1947, he gave it to his girlfriend when he proposed to her, and she made it into the skirt portion of her wedding dress. The dress was also worn by their daughter and then by their son’s bride in later weddings. Now it belongs to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. Link -via Boing Boing

What lies at the intersection of sci-fi geekdom and royal wedding fever? The royal wedding dalek! Chris Balcombe is an avid Doctor Who fan with his own dalek, which got a makeover for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Chris Balcombe, 51, has spent one week decorating his Dalek to tie in with the occasion. The Doctor’s nemesis has been painted red, blue and white and is covered with Union Jack flags and photos of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Furthermore, Chris attached a mechanical grip to the Dalek so it can hold trays of food and drinks.

Louise who runs dog boutique and grooming parlour Diva Dogs, in Essex – ran an online competition on her DivaDogs website and Facebook page to find the perfect husband for her princess Lola.

She received hundreds of entries of would-be suitors for Lol but whittled it down to a final six potential partners.

But much to her surprise, Lolas obvious favourite was Mugly, previously voted Britains ugliest dog, owned by mum-of-four Bev Nicholson, 47.

An underwater wedding ceremony yesterday at the London Aquarium drew the attention of a turtle who came forward to object to the union of this man and this woman. You know you’re dealing with a special household when a domestic argument turns into a case of gang assault.

But witnesses in Pakistan say that’s what happened to polygamist Mian Ishaq, who was beaten up by his first and second wives for allegedly conducting a secret wedding with a fourth wife — and planning a fifth marriage.

Ishaq was reportedly attending a friend’s wedding reception with his third wife when his first two spouses, identified as Mehvish and Uzma, arrived with a score to settle, according to The Telegraph.

The wives showed up with relatives and reportedly began overturning tables and threatening Ishaq’s life, then attacked their husband with their shoes until police hauled them away.

Uzma told the press that her husband deserved to be beaten.

“He started fighting with the driver, and the girls got out and ran,” said Karl Kammann, a Buckingham Bus driver who had just dropped off 48 guests at the church. “It was chaos. Right out from under the wedding party! What a way to get married.”

Headed in the opposite direction on Columbia Road was Gerald Whelan, who was sitting in traffic when he spotted the man get into the limo.

“I saw the driver’s side open, and the driver struggling, half in and half out,” said Whelan, 61. “He started yelling, ‘Help me! Somebody help me!’ ”

The driver managed to get out, unharmed, and the limo disappeared down Columbia Road, only to be abandoned shortly afterward on West Fifth Street in South Boston as police searched for the wedding bandit.

April Pignataro and Michael Curry of New York City got married yesterday. The bride wore a white wetsuit and the groom wore a traditional black wetsuit as they climbed inside a 120,000 gallon shark tank to take their vows at Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead, N.Y. Both are experienced divers, and said their “I dos” over a radio transmitter with an officiant who did not get in the tank.

“My mom was against it,” Pignataro said. “She was concerned that my makeup and hair were going to get messed up in the water. But . . . I’m a tomboy. Hair and makeup don’t mean a whole lot to me.”

Primary school teacher Rachael originally had the white dress made for her by parents of pupils for a term time recyclable materials fashion show last month.

But when fiancé Duncan popped the question while on holiday in Canada days later, she knew exactly which dress she would be wearing for the official ceremony.

The dress is made from sheets of carefully stitched bubble wrap, attached to an inner cloth lining, and finished off with white foam packaging material and Haribo sweets.

Josh and Ting Li of New York City got married on Valentine’s Day inside an Apple Store, in honor of the company that makes their favorite products:

The pair, who met in the Apple store, had their priest dressed as Steve Jobs, the company’s chief executive, read their vows from their iPhones, while the rings were tied to a ribbon wrapped around a first generation iPod.

Part of their vows included a passage from the Apple CEO that said: “You have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down.”

Mrs Ling, dressed in a strapless wedding dress, had her vows written on a card that said “I love you more than this” followed by a picture of an iPhone.

Dana Hanna of Abingdon, Maryland updated his Facebook relationship status at the altar, immediately after the presiding pastor declared the marriage. In The Los Angeles Times, W.J. Hennigan writes:

Hanna explains on YouTube that he did it for laughs and that the gag was a surprise to everybody in attendance except the minister. This would explain his wife’s look as he pulled “his” and “hers” cellphones from his tuxedo pockets.

“This was just done to be funny — we really don’t Facebook THAT often ,” he wrote on YouTube. “I have a lot of family scattered around the country and we all use Facebook a lot to keep in touch.”
