Amazing Jell-O Architecture

Posted by Stacy in Art, Food & Drink on April 22, 2011 at 5:46 pm

Bompas and Parr: Return of the Jelly Knights from Gestalten on Vimeo.

Anyone can slap some Jell-0 in a decorative mold and serve it up for dessert. But Sam Bompas and Harry Parr (AKA Jellymongers) have taken gelatin design to a whole new level. Using the jiggly, edible medium, Bompas and Parr sculpt intricate models of really complicated architecture like St. Paul’s Cathedral and the Gherkin in London. This video doesn’t reveal their secrets entirely, but it does give a better look at their process and some of their other fascinating work.

Floating Point

Posted by Ali S. in Architecture, Travel, Video Clips on August 17, 2010 at 8:16 pm

floating point from Samuel Cockedey on Vimeo.

** Check it out in HD! **

Samuel Cockedey, has been kind enough to give me a heads up whenever he had a time-lapse video for you Neatoramanuats in the past and so it was great when he contacted me recently to tell me he’s got one hot off the hard drive! A little slower paced than his previous works it still has plenty of amazing shots of the Tokyo skyline and city.

A photographer and a video artist hailing from France, Samuel has been living and working in Tokyo since 2000 and films and edits these videos as a hobby of his on the weekends. When I asked him why he takes time-lapse videos of the skyline of Tokyo instead of hitting the streets and getting the human element he said,

“I like wide shots because they’re more cinematic and more surreal. From afar it almost looks like an alien planet or colony, it leaves more to the imagination. I tend to find street shots more trivial, less dreamy and exciting.”

You can see his other videos that we have up here on Neatorama just below:

Zeitguised’s Imaginative Shorts

Posted by Johnny Cat in Art, Video Clips on January 2, 2010 at 11:37 pm

Vimeo user zeitguised has quite an array of entertaining art pieces on his profile.  This is my favorite, but I also really liked “The Zoo.” The blending of impossible scenes with crystal clear sound effects wins me over.

Peripetics from zeitguised on Vimeo.

Zeitguised made a piece in six acts for the opening exhibition at the Zirkel Gallery. It entails six imaginations of disoriented systems that take a catastrophic turn, including the evolution of educational plant-body-machine models and liquid building materials.

(autumn) from Samuel Cockedey on Vimeo.

Samuel Cockedey is a good friend of ours here at Neatorama and had been showcased in the past with his two amazing time lapse videos “Remanence : Variance” and “Static : Pulse“. He was kind enough to email us recently with news of a brand new and tantalizingly beautiful time lapse video that he had taken around Mount Fuji, Miyajima and Iwate prefecture in Japan.

Like his previous works this one is breathtaking and gorgeous with two of my favourite scenes being the very first scene in the clip and the other at the 2:14 mark. To truly enjoy this clip I suggest you check it out in HD on his Vimeo page (link under the video!).

Those of you interested in the song it is called “One Perfect Sunrise” by Orbital and Lisa Gerrard.

Static : Pulse

static : pulse from Samuel Cockedey on Vimeo.

Back in April we had put up a time lapse video clip by Samuel Cockedey called Remanence : Variance and folks seemed to have enjoyed watching it. Samuel, was kind enough to have contacted Neatorama recently with the news that he had just created a new video for us to watch hot off the proverbial presses.

The video shot in gorgeous HD is a lot more cinematic with grand vistas of Tokyo, various shots of the city coming alive with the buzzing traffic and buildings lighting up. My favourite part of the video has got to be the shot he has at the 1:00 mark with the clouds storming in over the city ;)

* It goes without saying you gotta watch this in HD. You can either hit the expand button on the video as it plays (for full screen viewing) or head to the Vimeo link below the clip to watch it in a larger size.

Crazy High Speed Video

I-Movix SprintCam v3 NAB 2009 showreel from David Coiffier on Vimeo.

I’ve been on a slow motion/high speed/time lapse binge as of late, which may be a good thing since I noticed that you folks are tiring from the regular time lapse videos of cities, skies and water. So, here is something a little different. Called “I-Movix SprintCam v3 NAB 2009 showreel”…yeah, the name isn’t so catchy or neat but the content is enough to make up for that. Created by David Coiffier who has a lot of other cool clips on his Vimeo page. My favourite has got to be the weird fuzzy green “bloooorp” thingy. I have no idea what it is but it really made my day. Remember to check it out in HD!
