Over the years, I have seen a number of wild wedding bands that people wear. I am partial to the carbon fiber and tungsten type myself. If you are into photography, you will appreciate the wedding bands a couple photographers had made. The his band is made to resemble the focusing ring on a Leica 50mm Summilux lens while the hers band looks like the aperture ring from the same lens. The rings even have their own custom-made metal Leica camera blank for storage. link

A wedding ring is symbol of commitment and permanence. A tattoo is commitment and permanence in itself. Some couples are skipping the jewelry in favor of matching or complementary tattoos on the couple’s ring fingers. And why not? You don’t have to remove it to shower, work with machinery, or have an MRI. It can’t be lost or stolen. It will never have to be resized or replaced. And you can design your own unique symbols! Their four-month-old puppy Barney was a suspect. So Woolley turned to modern technology to find it.

“My husband Jonathan and I were searching everywhere, and then he had the idea of using the metal detector.

“We put Barney on the floor and ran the metal detector over him and he started to bleep.”

The ring that Barney had swallowed had been given to Mrs Woolley by her grandmother.

“It was her engagement ring,” said Mrs Woolley, who is setting up a bed-and-breakfast at her home in Thrumpton. “She’s 104 in two weeks’ time. It’s gold and has three big diamonds, so it is probably worth a lot, but it’s also very precious sentimentally.”

Barney is such a small dog that the ring wouldn’t pass naturally, and he underwent surgery to remove it. Woolley now stores her ring in a drawer when she isn’t wearing it. Link -via Arbroath

Silversmith and offbeat artist Polly van der Glas creates jewelry made from human teeth, hair, and sterling silver. Aside from rings, she also makes necklaces, earrings, purses and more.

All works are handmade in Melbourne, with sterling silver, human hair and human teeth. Human teeth are locally donated and sterilised, and human hair is either locally donated or sourced from India and China.

Teeth are particularly difficult to come by, so any donations are gratefully accepted.

Did you see the ring around the moon last night? If you did and wondered what caused it, Yahoo! Buzz Log has the answer:

Though it looked ominous, the shiny ring around the moon last night was actually a rather common weather phenomenon. According to various weather-related blogs across the Buzz, this ring around the moon occurs when thin cirrus clouds, which contain ice crystals, refract the moonlight. A blog from the Goddard Space Flight Center explains that "the shape of the ice crystals results in a focusing of the light into a ring. Since the ice crystals typically have the same shape, namely a hexagonal shape, the Moon ring is always the same size."
