When graffiti artist Strook decided to create a piece for De Invasie, a series of artworks based around ecology, he grabbed a high pressure hose instead of an aerosol can and removed the moss from the wall, one line at a time, to create this awesome mechanical bird mural.

You can see more photos of this reverse graffiti piece at the link below, including shots of Strook at work on the wall and close-up detail shots so you can more fully appreciate the linework that went in to creating the mural. I wonder if law enforcement agencies will vilify this form of clean graffiti as they have with other forms of street art?

A new exhibition in London’s Mica Gallery will feature contemporary Egyptian art, much of which depicts themes and imagery from the Arab revolution. The exhibit includes graffiti from the streets of Cairo re-created on a gallery wall and a mummified man wrapped in pages from the Qur’an. Read more about this exhibition at the Guardian link.

Mural artist Eric Grohe is a master of Tromp l’oeil, the art of illusion. Believe it or not, the right side of the building shown is completely flat!

He believes that his art should involve, challenge and inspire the viewer; not simply adorn, but integrate with its architectural surroundings. Works of the size and scope that Mr. Grohe creates take months to complete as attention must be given to every detail, no matter how small.

Urban art comes in all kinds of flavor, but this may be my favorite: "A Love Letter For You," a project by Stephen Powers where he paints various murals with lovey-dovey messages around Philadelphia (yes, the City of Brotherly Love – how appropriate!)

Mural Mosaic is a project at the Town of Cochrane, Canada, where hundreds of original paintings by artists are combined into a giant mural.

The idea for the project came from artist Lewis Lavoie, who created the first Mural Mosaic by assembling scores of his own personal paintings into the face of Michelangelo’s David (previously on Neatorama here). Since then, he has created the master image and designate panels to individual artists (with some color and shape guidelines – but the artists are free to create as they desire).

This one above is their latest, "Le Cadeau du Cheval / The Horse Gift" (2008), which is composed of individual paintings of famous horses.

And this is genius – shortly after she posted the pictures of her completed room, she had someone gut an old, not-working Coke machine and put shelves inside. The result? Computer cabinet. Love it.
