The Dr. Fox Lecture

You know what they say… if you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS. From the YouTube page:

In 1970 three American researchers, John E. Ware, Donald H. Naftulin and Frank A. Donnelly, designed an experiment to find out whether a brilliant delivery technique of a talk could so completely bamboozle a group of experts that they overlooked the fact that the content was nonsense. The result was the hilarious Dr Fox Lecture and the answer was: yes! The experts didn’t notice a thing.

An actor named Michael Fox was recruited to play the lecturer. Fox didn’t understand the material he was going to present, and he was concerned that someone in the audience would recognize him from his many TV appearances. But he needn’t have worried. N.Y. Store Owner Gives Would-Be Thief Lecture, $40, Bread

Posted by Queuebot in Crime & Law on June 11, 2009 at 11:40 am

Most people put their hands up or hand over valuables in a robbery. However, this N.Y. store owner foiled an attempted robbery with a lecture, $40 and a loaf of bread.

Mohammad Sohail, a Long Island convenience store owner confronted by a bat-wielding would-be robber said Tuesday he decided to show mercy on the man after he collapsed in tears claiming he was only committing the crime to support his starving family.

Instead of getting loot from a stickup, the store owner provided the man with $40 and a loaf of bread, but only if he promised never to rob again.
