Don’t bother with Britain’s Got Talent. China’s Got Talent – now that’s where it’s at.

Why, you say? Just take a look at this talented 68-year-old man whose talent involves bashing his own balls with a hammer:

The video, picked up by Shanghaiist, shows a menagerie of weird talents in this year’s qualifying contest. The highlight, without doubt, is 68-year-old Zhou thwacking his nuts, first with a weight, then with a hammer.

Zhou claims he practices one of the Shaolin kung fu skills called "iron crotch gong" …, but his act was immediately dismissed after judge Annie Yi screamed in horror.

According to CRI, "iron crotch gong," or simply "crotch gong," is indeed one of the 72 Shaolin skills. CCTV also reports that it is one of the basic drills Shaolin monks practice every morning.

48-year old Viorel Firoiu of Orlea, Romania, admits he was drunk when he tried to cure his constipation by sticking a hammer in his rectum. He went to a hospital where x-rays revealed not one, but two hammerheads inside!

Dr Cristina Bontescu, spokeswoman for the local hospital where he turned up at the emergency unit, said: “He was a bit drunk and said he had been eating cherries that had left him badly constipated. He said he had a few drinks to dull the pain and then came up with the idea of poking a hammerhead up his backside in the hope of sorting out the constipation.

“But the hammerhead got stuck and then he came up with the idea of using a second hammerhead in order to try and get out the first – but then he lost the second one as well.”

The hammerheads had to be removed surgically. Link

Strap explosives to the business end of a long hammer and bang it hard on the ground. That’s the basic idea of this strange celebration in the town of San Juan de la Vega in Guanajuato, Mexico.

Metafilter user aetg explains what’s going on:

OK, so the reasons for doing so may be a little vague, but in any case, they’re exploding ‘artisanal’ explosives of a potassium chloride and sulphur base with big hammers. Apparently 17 people had minor wounds seen to by medics in 2007, and 50 in 2008, mostly due to being hit by explosive fragments, etc. That’s not so bad given that there are 10-20 thousand people that come for the celebration. There are actually authorities supervising everything that’s going on.

Explosives on a hammer? What can go wrong?
