Fans of traditional English breakfasts can certainly appreciate just how delicious this one looks. There’s just one problem -this is actually an elaborately disguised dessert platter.

The beans are white chocolate coated biscuits in an orange and strawberry coulis, the black pudding is chocolate biscuit cake, the sausages are peanut butter coated sponge wrapped in caramelised rice paper, the egg is a creamy panna cotta with lemon curd, the streaky bacon is brandy snap and the hash browns are crispy fried brioche pieces.

What do you think? Yummy or just plain icky?

Rosario Gamboa makes gelatinas that are arguably too pretty to eat. Her creations look like glass paperweights or snow globes, each with a flower inside. They’re made of gelatin, and they are bought as soon as they are displayed.

“They can’t believe the way we make them,” Gamboa says.

The process makes the outcome seem all the more remarkable. Trained hands can create a blossom in less than 10 minutes. (Check out the “gelatina artistica” video on YouTube.) Working in a palm-size hemisphere of freshly set gelatin, Gamboa uses hypodermic needles – some straight, some bent into a U – to inject colored mixtures of gelatin and sweetened condensed milk. It is done while the gelatin is inverted, so it’s a little like sculpting a figure from the feet up. Each stab or swath is instantly encapsulated, forming a leaf or petal or stamen. Slight corrections can be made if you’re skillful enough; otherwise, it’s art without a do-over option.

Craftster user Lethargic made these back in October for the season premiere of Dexter, but other clever Craftsters immediately came up with lots of other uses for them (divorce party). The actual cake is red velvet (my favorite, yum) with butter cream icing tinted to look like a skin tone, and the little knives are made out of piped white chocolate. Genius.

And Crafter member Choleblack made these simple yet brilliant cupcakes for Halloween. You could also use them for a Twilight party (not my thing, but have at it if it’s yours) or a True Blood premiere party. Or just for fun if you’re kind of creepy like me.

Anyone can run out to the drugstore and pick up a heart-shaped box of chocolates for their significant others for Valentine’s Day, but how many people can make a cake look like a heart-shaped box of chocolates? Yep, this yumminess is a cake from Bakerella – even the “truffles” are made of cake. And what’s even better is that she gives you step-by-step instructions on how to create one to impress your honey. I’m not going to do this because a) I’m lazy and b) my husband is diabetic, but if you make one, let us know. And take pictures!! Also: it’s red velvet cake. Yum.
