There are trees designed by Gaultier (pictured above), Vuitton, Chanel, Trussardi and Christian Dior, among other fabulous fashion moguls.

This 33 foot tall LEGO Christmas tree was unveiled last week in London’s St. Pancras International Station. It’s made out of 600,000 bricks, features ornaments made out of LEGOs and took over two months to build. Hopefully the children who visit the station won’t be tempted to take the towering plastic tree apart!

Our estimate is that there close to 800 books that make up the Christmas Tree! You can’t really see it from the photos, but we lit the tree from the inside, so it was glowing nicely through the spaces in the books.

The hotel’s general manager, Hans Olbertz, was quoted in local newspapers Thursday as saying the 43-foot (13-meter) faux fir has 131 ornaments that include gold and precious stones such as diamonds and sapphires.

Olbertz told Dubai’s Gulf News that he worked with one of the jewelers in the hotel to create a “unique tree and experience for our guests this year.” The hotel may later contact Guinness World Records for a possible bid as the world’s most expensive Christmas tree.

In order to turn on the Christmas tree lights, you have to connect all the bulbs and wires by rotating them. Not an easy task, but if I can do it, certainly you can! You will be timed for points, which should only concern you if you are the competitive type. Link

Kazuhiko Minawa of the Enoshima Aquarium in Japan developed a method of powering Christmas tree lights using an electric eel. Since at least 2007, his idea has been put to use in a local shopping center. Link -via Boing Boing

Some Neatorama readers may remember an era when trees were decorated with real candles, and families kept a bucket of water with a mop nearby.  Trees of that era were of course more freshly cut and had branching patterns less dense than today’s field-pruned varieties.

It’s less than a week to go to Christmas, so it’s time to trot out last year’s fruitcake (hey, it’s still good! Fruitcakes last forever) and this Neatorama’s post: World’s Most Unusual Christmas Trees.

KopBusters rented a house in Odessa, Texas and began growing two small Christmas trees under a grow light similar to those used for growing marijuana. When faced with a suspected marijuana grow, the police usually use illegal FLIR cameras and/or lie on the search warrant affidavit claiming they have probable cause to raid the house. Instead of conducting a proper investigation which usually leads to no probable cause, the Kops lie on the affidavit claiming a confidential informant saw the plants and/or the police could smell marijuana coming from the suspected house.

The trap was set and less than 24 hours later, the Odessa narcotics unit raided the house only to find KopBuster’s attorney waiting under a system of complex gadgetry and spy cameras that streamed online to the KopBuster’s secret mobile office nearby.

The attorney was handcuffed and later released when eleven KopBuster detectives arrived with the media in tow to question the illegal raid. The police refused to give KopBusters the search warrant affidavit which is suspected to contain the lies regarding the probable cause.
