Parent Made Teenage Daughter Fight with Sword and Armor as Medieval Punishment

Posted by Alex in Baby & Kids on October 18, 2011 at 4:38 pm

Did your teenage child go to a party without your permission? Send her to her room ... to fetch the armor, then make her fight you with a wooden sword as her (medieval) punishment!

That's what one Seattle, Washington, father did:

According to police, the teen was forced her to dress in armor and fight Fremon Seay with a wooden sword for two hours. Police also said Seay punched and beat his stepdaughter with a tree branch prior to the duel. Investigators said she collapsed from exhaustion.

The couple told officers they punished the teen for going to a party without their permission.

Investigators learned the couple is part of a group of Renaissance enthusiasts, who recreate fights from the medieval era.

Officers said the parents told them it was their right to discipline their child however they see fit.

Child abuse or effective use of medieval-style punishment for today's rebellious youth?

Mom Tattooed Kids (as Young as 10 Years Old!) Because They Begged For It

Posted by Alex in Baby & Kids, Body Modifications on January 4, 2010 at 8:56 pm

Well, they wanted it. That’s the reason Jo-Jo Marsh gave for tattooing her own children (one as young as ten years old) with a home-made tattoo gun (with a guitar string as a needle, no less):

"We were making it look like it was a cross," said Jo-Jo Marsh, "so the kids could have something they could say it was."

Jo-Jo Marsh shows Eyewitness News the tattoo on her son’s hand. The mark is a cross-like symbol left by a home-made tattoo gun with a guitar string as a needle.

"We didn’t even break the skin barely," said Marsh, "they are very tiny, just through a few layers, on the top, they will fade away, that’s how minuscule this is."

Marsh and her husband, Jacob Bartels, face child cruelty charges after detectives found the same mark on six of the couple’s seven children. One of the children is just 10 years-old. [...]

Marsh defends her actions saying the kids were begging for tattoos like hers.

She told [WRCB TV] multiple times during our interview that she changed the needle each time.

Marsh believes as the children’s guardian, she should have the right to tattoo them if she chooses. "Shouldn’t I have say so over what goes on in my child’s life," said Marsh, "I have custody of my child, I’m not going to hurt my child."

Child abuse or simply a mom with a cutting edge sense of style? Link

Government: You’re Cleared of Child Abuse, But It’s Too Late to Have Your Children Back

Posted by Queuebot in Everything Else on February 24, 2009 at 8:36 pm

Mark and Nicky Webster’s children were taken away by UK’s social services after doctors found small fractures in their son’s leg, mistakenly thought as caused by physical abuse but later found to have a rare medical cause.

When they went to clear their names and get their children back, the courts said that it was too late …

The couple’s nightmare started in October 2003 when Mrs Webster took their second son to hospital with a swollen leg.

He was found to have a number of small fractures which doctors said could be caused only by physical abuse.

The following year they were permanently removed and put up for adoption after a one-day court hearing.
Medical experts later concluded that the injuries were not caused by violent twisting and shaking, but were symptoms of rare case of scurvy. [...]

The Appeal Court ruled on Wednesday that even though the Websters ‘may well’ have been victims of a miscarriage of justice the adoption order on their eldest three children could not be revoked because the youngsters are now settled with their adoptive parents.
