Ray Basile of Zombie Wagon made zombie cupcakes for the opening of his zombie art exhibit. Then he posted the step-by-step instructions so you can make your own for a birthday party, Halloween party, or just because you like zombie cupcakes! Link

When we were very young, we learned how to place things in order: first second, third, fourth, fifth, etc. Some of us went on to decorate cakes that wished children a Happy Birthday with their age specified as an ordinal number. But occasionally, the numeric abbreviation for an ordinal gets messed up. Cake Wrecks has eight, count ‘em, eight cakes with the ordinals 1th, 2th, and 3th. Link

I've got a feeling that it probably took Carla Ikeda of Dentro Do Forno (previously on Neatorama) more than a hard's day night to create The Beatles' Yellow Submarine cake. (And how could one cut into such a cake? I'd just let it be ...)
So money can't buy you love, but it sure can buy an awesome cake (and of course, some cool Yellow Submarine stuff over at the NeatoShop)

Look at these adorable cupcakes! DeviantART member tomo-chi made mushrooms and Goombas from the world of Mario, with green ice cream cones serving as pipes. Link -via Buzzfeed

This space core from the game Portal 2 is a cake! Yes, it’s a cake, not a sculpture or toy. To prove it, here’s a picture of the cake being cut. It was made by Mike’s Amazing Cakes. You can see more pictures of the space core cake at Flickr.
-Thanks, Richard!

I know it’s a heart attack on a plate, but this fried pound cake peanut butter and jelly sandwich looks so delicious to me -and I don’t even like peanut butter! Would you guys try it or is it just another nasty overindulgence that belongs on This Is Why You’re Fat?
Charm City Cakes prove themselves to be true wizards of cake decorations with this fantastic Hogwarts cake for the Harry Potter premiere in New York City.
I so would’ve scarfed down the whole thing, had I not already been victimized by the evil "chubbify" spell

Jamie Masterson looked at Angry Birds from a non-cartoony point of view when he and his wife made this cake for the Threadcakes baking competition. Bakers pick a favorite Threadless T and create an edible version of it. In this case, the eggs, birds, slingshot, crown and the pig’s ears are all made of modeling chocolate; the rest of it is delicious cake. Here’s the original t-shirt – I think the likeness is pretty sweet.

Cakehead Loves was commissioned to provide a “disturbing edible experience” based on a scene from the Silent Hill video game for an Alice Cooper freak show audition. Among the gruesome treats to be offered at the event tomorrow is this Silent Hill Nurse Cake by Mamma Jamma Cakes. It was made from six stacked chocolate cake layers and is completely edible. This is some great viral marketing for the new Transformers movie, but it’s still really cool. The team from “Cake Boss” created a replica of the Bumblebee – Camaro Transformer out of cake. After all that work I can’t imagine anyone actually eating it; plus it might fight back. See full clip at the link.
It looks a tad slumpy, but I don’t doubt that a lot of work went into making this cake-based replica of the FujiFilm X100 camera. It was made by the bakery-owning wife of photographer Gary Cruz for his birthday. He has more images on Flickr if you’d like a better look. Link

This lovely springtime cake contains no asparagus, but is a clever decoration project by Rosie at Sweetapolita. It was especially designed for her sister-in-law Mary, who is sick of asparagus. No worries; these spears are made of fondant, covering a chocolate cake with butter cream frosting. Link -via Nag on the Lake

Yes, it’s customary to celebrate happy occasions with cake, but if you think about it, you need cake much more during the bad times. So forget greeting cards filled with platitudes – use cakes filled with sugary goodness!

Paris Hilton celebrated her 30th birthday with a party last week. Los Angeles musician Paz crashed the party and made off with one of the cakes that wasn’t eaten. Many doubted his account, but the baker later confirmed the theft. Hilton never mentioned the theft, but the bakery wanted to know what Paz thought of the cake. Now we have the rest of the story: what happened to the cake.
“I regret that I have but 3 tiers of frosted red velvet to give for my country,” spoke the doomed confection.
And with that, he was carved into 125 delicious slices, and served to the homeless of downtown Los Angeles on white paper plates.
For those who cannot access Facebook, here are screenshots of the beginning and end of the story.
Mike Cooper made a cake for his son’s 6th birthday on the theme of the Angry Birds video game. However, this cake was a game itself, complete with a working catapult, and was played before eating! How could anyone cut into this awesome retro robot cake? I love the button/top-hat on this cake by Brazilian cake decorator Carla Ikeda.
Charm City Cakes was commissioned to create a wedding cake for two Ghostbusters fans. Really avid fans.
Obsessed on a level that we can understand (though with us it’s Star Wars and/or Jaws).
They wanted to incorporate their shared love of the movie into their wedding cake. Their idea? To replicate the final scene of the movie, when the guys are battling the Stay Puft Marshmallow man from atop an NYC skyscraper, only with the bride and groom doing the proton pack zapping. Can we do that?
Um, YES? YES WE CAN.
