World’s Largest Bra

Posted by John Farrier in Advertising, Business on November 2, 2011 at 4:36 pm

To promote breast cancer awareness, the British ad agency Chillisauce placed a huge bra across a building in London. At 30 meters across, it may be the largest bra in the world. It must not have been very effective, because they had to use scaffolding to reduce bounce.

Angry Birds Bra Not Sexy, But Awesomely Geeky

Posted by Jill Harness in Art, Art & Design, Entertainment, Fashion, Gaming, Living on August 5, 2011 at 2:22 am

It might not be the sexiest lingerie around, but it just might be the geekiest. Of course, this might just be dangerous for the ladies out there, as one of your breasts are likely to start attacking the other at any given time.

Woman Goes to Court with Monkey in Her Bra

Posted by John Farrier in Crime & Law, Society & Culture on March 11, 2011 at 4:34 pm

A woman was due to appear in court in Amherst, Virginia. So, naturally, she stuffed a small monkey into her bra before entering the courthouse:

The woman brought along the palm-sized marmoset to a proceeding in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in Amherst County, Va. Apparently, officials actually didn’t notice the clinging creature until the woman went to an office to do some paperwork.

“I can’t understand why the deputy didn’t see her – she was peeking out,” the woman told The Lynchburg News & Advance.

When the woman referred to a daughter, a puzzled official asked where the daughter was and the woman pulled the monkey out of her bra, the newspaper reported.

Emergency Bra

Posted by John Farrier in Gadgets, Hacks & Mods, Living on September 24, 2010 at 3:49 pm

Last year, Dr. Elena Bodnar won the Ig Nobel Prize in Public Health for her Emergency Bra. Having seen first hand the devastating effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, she designed it to filter out the radioactive particles found there. In the event of a similar emergency, just remove the bra and break it into two usable air filter masks.

Dr. Bodnar is thought to be currently working on a “counterpart device for men”, although the configuration is unknown.

The Bra Art of Laura Jacobs

Posted by John Farrier in Art, Fashion on August 24, 2010 at 11:42 am

In a series called “Wallflowers”, artist Laura Jacobs made a series of bras decorated in different themes, often nautical ones.

The surreal circus-like atmosphere in which we live, make the bras of Laura Jacobs no less startling. Incorporating everything from crab claws and fish heads to antique glass and mother of pearl, their wall-borne, gravity-defying flight gives voice to the shapes that lie behind, concealed like soft pills of great potency…

We are here, you want to look at us. Breasts are symbols of — and vehicles for — power.. Like the twinned temples of Angkor Wat or any ancient shrine, Jacobs has made temples to befit them, define them and sometimes hold them, in ridicule.

Bra Sizes Increasing

Posted by Miss Cellania in Fashion on April 10, 2009 at 10:59 am

One of America’s largest bra makers says that three years ago, the most common size in the country was 36C. Last year it was 36D. In 2009, Wacoal predicts that 36DD will be the size more women purchase than any other.

Theories abound as to why women’s cups seem to be (forgive the pun) spilling over. Some ascribe the difference to a confluence of health and beauty trends that have accelerated over time. A 2007 study of adult women by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that the prevalence of obesity — someone having a body mass index of 30 or more — has increased 2.1 percent since 2004, to 35.3 percent. Breast augmentation, too, is still a popular procedure, despite the recession. And age and hormones play havoc with baby boomers’ bust sizes, as well. But most manufacturers and lingerie shop owners say the phenomenon is due to the fact that more women are being fitted correctly. They call it the Oprah effect. Since 2005, when Oprah Winfrey devoted a show to how to buy the right size bra, the number of women seeking bra fittings has soared.
