Batman, The Musical

Posted by Alex in Cartoon & Comic, Music on October 12, 2009 at 2:45 am

How can you make the Dark Knight just that much more awesome? Simply
add a little Neil Patrick Harris – that’s right, in the new TV cartoon, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, NPH plays the Music Meister, who can control people by singing.

The result is a whimsical Batman musical, titled Mayhem of the Music Meister (series producer James Tucker described that the "plot itself is just a framework, an excuse to have everybody sing!" Every Batman episode should be like this! Link [embedded YouTube clips]

Man Builds Batmobile Replica for $1 Million

Posted by John Farrier in Car & Vehicle, Movies & SciFi on October 2, 2009 at 9:42 am

Photo: Simon Måssebäck

Leif Garvin of Sweden spent about $1 million building his own Batmobile. It’s built onto the chassis of a 1973 Lincoln Continental and has a 700 hp engine. Like the, uh, real Batmobile, it’s loaded with all sorts of gadgetry:

There’s sat-nav to help you find the scene of the crime (and other helpful POIs), a plasma TV for video calls to Albert (and for distraction during Stockholm traffic jams), voice recognition to keep your fighting hands free (and avoid nasty fines), height-adjustable suspension for navigating dramatic obstacles in your path (and speed bumps), a rear-view camera to watch your back (and help with tight parking squeezes), and machine guns for, er, shooting stuff. Worryingly, there is no word on whether said firearms are real…

UPDATE 10/4/09: Simon Måssebäck emailed to correct a mistake. He didn’t make the Batmobile — a man named Leif Garvin did. Thanks, Simon, especially for allowing us to use your photo!

Batman Motorcycle Suits for Sale

Posted by John Farrier in Fashion, Movies & SciFi on July 18, 2009 at 6:16 pm

When I was six, my mother sewed a piece of velcro on an old blue towel.  That was my Batman outfit.  This is better: a functional set of motorcycle leathers modeled after the Batsuit in the movie The Dark Knight.  Put one on, hop on your Vespa, and relish the attention.  Because nothing impresses people better than wearing a superhero costume.

Batman Rescues Bangkok

Posted by Queuebot in Crime & Law on April 25, 2009 at 12:48 pm

Bangkok, Thailand, is turning into Gotham City with violence, fatalities, and social upheaval during the "red shirt" riots.

It seems that Batman has now come to the rescue, fighting crime and breaking tension in Bangkok. Although his alias is not Bruce Wayne, he steps up in the time of need for his country. See him in action in this YouTube clip. Go Batman!

Last week, as anti-government protesters clad in crimson stormed the capital’s streets, some guys hijacked a gas truck and parked it in an otherwise quiet neighborhood. They were pursued by soldiers and assumed (according to Thai media reports) that the military wouldn’t fire into an area containing a massive container of liquid fuel.

Then, out of nowhere, Batman steps into the crowd and surveys the scene.

The Closest You'll Ever Get to Being Batman

Posted by Stacy in Fashion, Movies & SciFi on March 3, 2009 at 11:01 pm

You can actually zip this thing all the way up and then look out of mesh eye holes where Batman’s eyes are. I think this is kind of cool as a hoodie, but when you add the face to it, I get creeped out. But if you’re ready to go fight crime*, you can spend a mere $75 and be well on your way! The Tumbler will set you back a little more, though.

*Do not actually go fight crime wearing this.

If Batman Were a Cat ...

Actually, that’s An Important and Unique Cat, a marble sculpture by Swiss sculptor Edouard-Marcel Sandoz, an artist of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movement. But I couldn’t resist pointing out the similarities to the Dark Knight – via The Zeray Gazette

An Early Oscar Prediction?

Posted by Stacy in Movies & SciFi on January 5, 2009 at 11:30 am

The folks at iBored posted this about a month ago, but now that we’re getting closer to the Oscars I thought it might be interesting to see what you guys think.

Here’s my two cents: I thought Heath Ledger was awesome, and I don’t usually even like those movies. I really hated Batman Begins even though I love Christian Bale. Katie Holmes kinda ruined it for me. On second thought, maybe that’s why I liked The Dark Knight. I digress. Back to your thoughts – Is this poster a prediction of how the Oscars are going to go this year? Do you think it should be? Let us know in the comments. Either way, I think the poster is neat.
