Violinist Creates Mario Music and Sound Effects as the Game is Played

Playing the Mario theme on the violin is nice, but not neato. What makes this video different is that it appears that pro violinist Teppei Okada plays the theme and sound effects in sync with someone else playing the game. What’s unclear is whether or not the game is pre-recorded (and thus practiced) or impromptu. The latter of which would, of course, be extra awesome.

There are similar videos in the YouTube channel, or you can go to Geekologie for a nice selection.

Pre-recorded; you can see the ‘play’ button in the lower left of the screen at the beginning. Not that it makes it any les awesome.

I like the ‘tricks’ he performs on the violin for ‘non-musical’ sound effects. Well done.

Don’t miss the others – he did an entire series of games in this manner.

I love it! This reminds me of the “Mario A Capella” group on YouTube. Check it out if you are interested. -JustanEducator

    Starting screen shows three lives.

    Game Over after one death.

    Incorrect. Recalculate.

It would take a PHENOMINAL professional musician to be able to do it AS the game is played; as it is, he’s pretty fantastic to be able to do it as well as he does. I’m impressed! I’ll be looking for his other videos…If I were still teaching school orchestra, I’d show these to my younger students; they’d love them!
