6 More Weeks of Winter Weather

Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog who lives in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, emerged from underground and was frightened back in by his shadow this morning. The groundhog's handler, Bill Deely, said that means six more weeks of winter weather.

Let’s look beyond that fact to consider that February 2nd is the midpoint between the winter solstice and the vernal equinox, and according to the calendar, we always have six more weeks of winter at this point.

Lat's also look beyond today's prediction to note that Phil is usually wrong about the forecast.

Let’s also look beyond to consider that there are plenty of other groundhogs in plenty of other locations that are also relied on to predict weather on Groundhog Day.

But now that Punxsutawney Phil has done his yearly duty, he can go back to his peaceful life living at the library with his wife, Phyllis.
