The Living Clay Art Of Johnson Stang

Johnson Stang has the alchemist’s gift of making solid materials, in this case ceramic clay, bend to his will and take on the characteristics of a fluid without sacrificing solidity, while beautifully replicating humanistic forms in a splash of sculptural liquid.

His latest series is called Living Clay, and it combines ceramic crockery with sculptural element to create the fluid illusion, capturing the look of liquids mid-pour with realistic human faces emerging from the drink.

The sculptural forms flow in such an organic way it's hard to believe they're made of clay and not splashing liquids, and Johnson seamlessly integrates human forms into each piece in a way which makes them feel like they've always been there just waiting to rise up out of the water.
