The Gorge at Watkins Glen

(Photo: Peter Rivera)

This lovely, tranquil scene is in Watkins Glen State Park in Upstate New York. Glen Creek cuts 300 feet through the rock, forming a deep gorge with waterfalls and pools. Stone walkways and bridges built in the 1930s provide access to travellers.

I grew up just out side of Watkins Glen, NY (and now only live 40 miles from it). While the gorge is certainly the most widely known area there are many more places even more stunning. If you go there ask a local what falls they like to hike to.
