Occupy Antarctica

By Miss Cellania in Pictures on Oct 18, 2011 at 6:07 am

We knew the Occupy Wall Street movement was widespread when we saw it had reached the Arctic tundra, but now it has been confirmed on the other end of the world as well! The protests have officially reached all seven continents. Link -via The Daily What

People in Antarctica can’t spell Antarctica. How precious.

Wake me up when anarchism is a good governance solution.

They should be tagged and re-released in California.

Did the Whale Wars crew get shore leave?

It’s pretty expensive to get to Antarctica, and if they can’t even spell the name of where they are correctly, I doubt they’re researchers.

So, they either have a lot of disposable income, or they’re heavily in debt. Seems a little hypocritical to be protesting Wall Street.

I don’t know how old you have to be to be a researcher in Antarctica but some of them look awfully young.
Also, I think I would have made another sign rather than having an obvious correction on it.

It might not be so easy to get another sign. And there are plenty of workers besides researchers in Antarctica. I used to follow a blog that belonged to a guy who washed dishes for a living for years at McMurdo.

Who’s to say that is even Antarctica?

these folks are friends of mine, and are stationed at mcmurdo station antarctica as support staff. no, they are not researchers, but you would be surprised how many young researchers come in from universities for the summer season. and i think the sign is spelled wrong and corrected for a reason – no one who ever asks us about antarctica can spell it right. they should have also somewhere had a polar bear on the sign. and they don’t pay to get there, so they don’t have the disposable income, they are most likely (as most of us are) in deep school debt and are working down there to pay the debts off while not having to pay for room and board.

This is great. Bless them and stay warm. The little Adele penguins ought to be out there. They sit around anyway.

This is great. Down in the vast nothingness, people care about the rest of the world. Stay warm.
