Burger King’s New Pizza Burger

By Alex in Food & Drink, Pictures on Aug 20, 2010 at 10:43 am

Burger King has just released a new food item that will surely have purists (and perhaps normal people) seething in rage: the bastard child of the unholy mating of burger and pizza:

The New York Pizza Burger ($12.99) is a 9-and-a-half-inch wide burger made with four Whopper patties topped with pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, marinara sauce, and Tuscan pesto sauce.

It’s about time. For years there has been Bacon Double Cheeseburger pizza, and recently the flavour of Doritoes which tastes like a BigMac.

Years ago here in Colorado there was a burger chain called Around the Corner that had all sorts of combo burgers, one of them being the Pizza Burger. I have found memories from the late sixties of going there and having my favorite which was the Pizza Burger. Sadly they closed down in the nineties. Each booth had it’s own telephone that connected you to the counter to order, then they’d buzz the telephone to let you know when it was ready.

There was an Around the Corner in Atlanta in the early 80s; I remember the pizza burger as well. Mainly, though, I remember the thrilling novelty of placing one’s order via telephone.

That would be delicious if it was the size of a normal sandwich. You know, one patty? Why do they have to take a good idea and blow it up to disgusting proportions? Oh yeah, because this is America.

You don’t have to eat the whole thing… like a pizza, it can be shared with others.

I completely agree with Craig; and why the heck is it $12.99??

$12.99 is insane. Then again, their mascot is completely insane.

I remember this place in Boston that was somewhere on near Allston/Brighton Green line in the late 80s/early 90s that served similarly sized hamburgers. I think it was called Arbuckle’s. I only went there twice, but I remember the burgers there where HUGE.

Anyone know if that place still exists?

Basically this is a burger with a taste like a pizza. How about real pizza stuff with burger patties with mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce? That would be interesting to see.

Gee for $12.99 I could get a real pizza that would taste just like a pizza, Not an attempt.

    New?

I’ve been eating pizza burgers since the ’60s.

Hasn’t anyone every been in a Big Boy restaurant???

The price and size are because it is several servings like a pizza. They should have just made a burger with the ingredients, it sounds good, instead of going for novelty.
