Bermuda Triangle Mystery Solved

So where are the reports of ships and airplanes nearly cought in such a bubble, the witness accounts of the ones that escaped the disaster?

So–
How many planes and ships have disappeared at sea where there are cows? Does the Bermuda Triangle(tm) extend to Wisconsin?

This whole story seems to have been concocted from something that produces methane.

That’s not how Agent Mulder explained it.

Discovery ran a special on this a few years ago.

This: “Aircraft falling victim to these methane bubbles will lose their engines-perhaps igniting the methane surrounding them-and immediately lose their lift as well, ending their flights by diving into the ocean and swiftly plummeting.”

Is completely wrong. The density at which an aircraft engine would stall or ignite the methane can not occur in nature outside of a subterranean area. What can happen is that since methane is significantly lighter then air if can through the aircraft readings off leading pilots to believe that they are suddenly climbing very rapidly, when they are not, they send the plane into a dive which they believe will correct this false reading and then splash.

I say these theorists are full of gas.

I’ve heard this theory before, it’s hardly new.

So basically the Bermuda Triangle is Mother Earth’s bunghole.

I use to sail all the time in that area. I always believed it to be exaggerations. Of the real lost planes and ships, I attribute them to three things:

(1) Navigation errors (human error). There are a lot of idiots in this area who know nothing about boating.

(2) White Squalls. I’ve been in a couple. They are super intense thunderstorms. They only last a few minutes. Everything turns white and you can tell where the ocean and rain separate. If you don’t have good equipment, or panic, you will sink. I’d hate to fly through one in a small plane. It would slam you into the sea. It is sort of like being hit by a tornado.

(3) Narco Pirates (in the 70s and 80s). This explains the boat disappearances on perfect clear days. A little fast speedboat runs up, shoots all aboard, and then they use your boat for a one time drug run from Columbia. Takes all of 30 seconds, no time for distress calls. They don’t care, and they sink the boat after the run and just pirate another one for their next job.

I was in the Navy when our ship went through the triangle and that place is screwy.

Our GPS went out, so there were navigators bitching about having to use a sextant.

Plus, in engineering, we had a steam-powered main feed pump just quit working. It was the darndest thing. We had the MPA, Cheng and C.O. down in the pit trying to figure out why the damn pump wouldn’t work.

When we got back close to Norfolk, everything just started working again.

Something *is* screwed up in the triangle, and it doesn’t have anything to do with any damned methane bubbles.

Large amounts of plant material which eventually fall and die can, in large amounts, periodically produce the kind of methane bubbles they’re describing. The eastern end of the Bermuda Triangle is also a part of the ‘Sargasso Sea’, known for it’s large amounts of sea weed. It’s been quite thoroughly proven that yes, under the right conditions (big enough bubble, or an overweight ship perhaps) a methane bubble in the water can indeed sink a vessel. A plane? The demonstrations I’ve seen don’t indicate much to bet on. Sudden exhalations of gas can also be caused by volcanic activity, which has been noted in the Dragon’s Triangle just south of Japan.

The Bermuda Triangle is also known for both piracy, geomagnetic anomalies, and the usual oceanic sudden storms. Sudden disappearances in that area aren’t such stretch to the imagination. My guess is the Dragon Triangle is also such a place of mystery and scary stories. However, these dangers are real in quite a few places; not just those two, and for much the same reasons.

No, but Larry’s work isn’t the only research I’ve seen on the topic. I’m also quite used to advocates on paranormal explanations being rather sloppy researchers who readily assume the mystery is really mysterious and then proceed to try to cobble together ad-hoc explanations. Those to tend to go back to the beginning quickly find there isn’t much of a legend to go on.

A lot of shipwrecks in a very large, high traffic area of the ocean? No way, it must be aliens using their methane bubble rays! Cmon, I thought common sense had already prevailed over all these crackpot theories.

What about the magnetic field around this area? Tell us it is methane but please tell us where it is coming from – the ring of fire I’m sure, but why such an intense build up in this triangle only. The bubbles of methane are actually methane hydrate which is “frozen” underneath the ground at the bottom of the ocean. It is formed when bubbles of methane are trapped in water ice crystals and in specific conditions, the methane can be released causing these bubbles. It isn’t just a random source of methane coming from the water, it’s already in the sedimentary rock underneath the ocean.

I’m with a bunch of the other commenters, here – everything credible I’ve read suggests that there is no effect to explain in the first place. The Bermuda Triangle is just a place where ordinary (though still tragic) wrecks are considered ominous, even though they’re no less explainable and no more numerous than wrecks occurring in other parts of the world.

Proposing methane bubbles to explain the Bermuda Triangle is like proposing solar storms to explain Sudden Kitten Levitation – since the phenomenon itself is a fantasy, there’s really nothing to explain!

I remember watching the “Tonight Show” years ago (the first time Jay Leno was the host) when a scientist was on showing what he thought was happening in the Burmuda Triangle–and it was this theory. He showed it using a large body of water in plexiglass and pumping methane into it. The toy boat sank like a rock and the model airplane burst into flames (I believe).

While I can not remember how plausible the scientist’s credentials were, I thought it was an interesting segment.

I have heard this before. I think it is something like methane trapped under the ocean floor in the earth materials. Then there is a slide of materials on certain ocean floor cliff-like structures. The methane is several small bubbles, possibly forming into one large bubble. Zero buoyancy in aerated water causes ships to sink.

I like the idea of pirates. If I were a Narcopirate (whatever that is) I would totally target that area as a missing boat would raise less suspicion.

Who are the “scientists” behind this ‘explanation’? The article cites no names, so it might simply be the invention of “Johnny Cat” himself, self-acclaimed “Scientist”. There are not links to renowned scientific organizations that can provide validation to this claim. In this end, this very light article is just a methane bubble about to burn by itself.

I always find it poignant that people, with full knowledge of no knowledge, make the ‘this is how it is claim’. If the only thing you have is a feeling, or the hearsay of another who’s information you cannot vouch for, becareful not to be caught extrapolating false premises.

the reason behind barmura mystery is high concentration of methane i dont think so, b,coz if all the ships and aircraft were vanished due to high conc. of methane which was due to the presence of whale and aquatic food, then why can’t divers find any bodies or stuffs of ships or aircraft?

How can the methane bubbles produce.

actually according to me the methane has 4 hydrogen molecules .. as a result more amount of covalent bonds are broken leading to a intradistinct force of attraction …… hence this force forces due to various kinds of pressures such as surface pressure vapor density etc … this leads in the formation of foam like things or bubbles … these bubbles have electrons and have tendency to capture/attract substances .. hence the given expkanation is suitable……
