I actually get more of a kick out of her interpretations of the real chart. “Huh. I never knew that about giraffes.” is spot on.
Kind of funny, but pain charts are hopeless anyway. Different people feel different amounts of pain for the same injury or illness. I could be that some of us are tougher than others, it could be that our whole nervous system differs. It is, however, a fact that levels of pain are not universal and are therefore a poor measure of the seriousness of an ailment.
Hmmmmmmmm……
Lemmie check. I think that Allie did draw it after he BF started ralphing up craisins and it was first featured on Reddit, buuuuuuuut lessee…
Yeah, it’s her art. Guess I’m fussing about nothing. You’re got proper attribution.
Cursed intarnets. Things link places and people post stuff. They will be my undoing.

@Jollyboy you’re right, but the pain scale is pretty helpful if you’re monitoring the progress of something. The point is to ask more than once, to see the degree to which pain is increasing or decreasing. It doesn’t give you solid facts, it gives you a relative comparison. Just like pulse strength and pupil response and your sadly hysterical responses to questions like “Do you know what day it is?” “Do you know where you are?”
This is AWESOME. I think I’ll print it out and give one to my ER nurse friends! They’ll get a big kick out of it.
I love this! “10. I am actively being mauled by a bear”
The original pain charts are very unrealistic, I agree.
Oh, this is great! I understand why they have to ask that, but I always hate trying to quantify pain in these terms, especially since 3 out of the 4 times I’ve been to an ER have involved kidney stones.
I too do not care for the pain charts. faces or worse yet the # chart – which btw caused miscommunication (sp?) between my nurse & dr ! There’s gotta be a better way … Um like this “revised” chart : ) pain is far too subjective to apply #’s & faces IMHO. Be well ev1
