Mario and Luigi in Manchester

By Johnny Cat in Blogs & Internet, Toys, Travel on Mar 9, 2010 at 12:09 am

Aha! I knew these guys would eventually open a restaurant, but I always imagined it would be a joint venture, not next-door competing eateries. Found at Google Street View, ever the source for coincidence, not irony. This is in Manchester, United Kingdom, where reports of plumbing failures have peppered the news there.

Not only is it incredible they are next to each other, but the fact that Mario's is red, Luigi's is green, and Luigi's is just a little bit taller is almost eerie.

I live in Manchester and I've been past here before. The first time I saw it I chuckled, but now I've seen it so much I'm used to it. :)

Luigi's kebabs are so potent you have to wear bright yellow safety gear to tackle them. It is also advisable to have a big metal thing on a pole to fend them off if they get a bit frisky.

Mario's is a bakery. Luigi's is a kebab joint (though they serve other food as well, I'm told). Not much in the way in the way of direct competition, unless some kid can't decide between cake or birthday kebabs (which may or may not have come up when I lived there).

    Where I live there's a Harold's right next to a Maude's.
