Jewelry You Can Sink Your Teeth Into

Silversmith and offbeat artist Polly van der Glas creates jewelry made from human teeth, hair, and sterling silver.  Aside from rings, she also makes necklaces, earrings, purses and more.

All works are handmade in Melbourne, with sterling silver, human hair and human teeth. Human teeth are locally donated and sterilised, and human hair is either locally donated or sourced from India and China.

Teeth are particularly difficult to come by, so any donations are gratefully accepted.

    Pssshaaww!

DECADES ago I glued bell caps to my recently removed wisdom teeth and kept them on a keychain. i THINK I still have them somewhere…

I dunno if it’s still in force, but Florida was floating the idea of not allowing folks/kids to take extracted teeth with them due to ‘medical waste’ issues.

That metal work looks horrible. Are these made by highschool metalshop workers? 101.

Years ago my dad had a pair of cuff links made with his wisdom teeth mounted on them. I am now the proud owner.

I want a piece of jewelry made with my excised gall bladder to give as a present to my wife.

I’m a silversmith amongst other things, and I built a bezel mounted wisdom tooth ring in about 1990, using my own wisdom tooth.

The bezel mounts look pretty ugly, maybe they’re not made from fine silver as they should be.

fine silver is different from strlng silver.

I must agree about the handicraft of that jewellery. Not very professional-looking at all.

I would never donate my teeth to create a monstrocity such as this.

I’m jealous. I have not been allowed to keep any of my extracted teeth. wisdom or otherwise. I was told they were bio-hazard and could not be released.

and Another Jake, is there still HS shop class anymore?

This is actually a very common practice in Costa Rica, where I’m from. When little girls lose their baby teeth some parents will have them set into a pair of earrings that the child will usually wear into adolescence.

When I got my wisdom teeth removed, I was walked from the dental office dazed and sore, packed with cotton in my mouth. The nurse handed me a cup and I looked at her, confused.

She said “Those are your teeth, honey.”

I looked down and they were twisted, still bloody and one of them had been sheared in half to make removal easier.

    I wanted to throw up.

The last thing I could imagine would be making it into jewellery.
