Every year, scores of people fling themselves down Cooper’s Hill in Gloucestershire, England, risking their necks and even lives … all in hope of catching (and winning) a block of cheese.

Behold the sports of cheese rolling:

Glad that there are still places where there isn’t a governmental organisation that promptly scraps this event because of health-hazards and too much personal risks.

“Spinal Tap did it first” – um, no… They’ve been doing the Cooper’s Hill Cheese Rolling in Gloucester for centuries!

And: health and safety do occasionally shut down the event, when the weather is too bad and the hill is too muddy, but it still goes ahead most years. As you can see, they have PLENTY of medical support on hand, and those people in purple are the the local rugby team brought in as catchers to stop people when they reach the bottom of the hill.

Are there rules against putting on a hazmat suit and covering yourself with lube? I’d think sliding down would be your best bet.
