USA Sitcom Map

Posted by Miss Cellania in Travel & Places on March 19, 2009 at 8:01 am

Dan Meth produced a map of the United States featuring the places some of your favorite TV shows were set. It was inspired by his earlier map of sitcoms set in New York City. Link to US map. Link to New York map. -via YesButNoButYes

Not to nitpick but were Bonanza, Gunsmoke and Hawaii 5-0 comedies? Maybe I was just too young to get the jokes. Still, interesting...clearly there's an untapped market for a Montana-based series. : )

Haha, where in the world is Lost? Or when in the world is Lost? They should make a USA Sitcom TIMELINE Map to show that... :-)

227 took place in Washington, DC. It was based off of a play in Chicago, but the series was Washington.

Hello? "Hello Larry" with Maclean Stevenson (spinoff of Diff'rent Strokes) was set in Portland.
"...Cause Portland is a long way from LA..."

    Where's The Simpsons?

The creators of Scrubs only say that it takes place in California, though not necessarily Los Angeles. The cast and crew call it San DiFrangeles, as the exact location has never been revealed.

The show, however, is filmed in a real, abandoned hospital located in North Hollywood, CA.

I agree with HSC...The Simpsons are in Springfield MA and get not representation, which makes me really sad :(

Bonanza, Gunsmoke and Hawaii 5-0 were all funnier shows than Family Guy.

Elagie - I was thinking the same thing about Montana. Home state needs some representation.

This is a terrible list. Where's How I Met Your Mother. And Magnum PI? Murder She Wrote? What the hell?

The show "Best of the West" might have been set in montana. Not sure. It was a fictional town of Copper Creek or something like that. Where was "She's the Sheriff" set I wonder?

Freaks and Geeks wasn't a comedy; all they did is cry in that show.

For Seinfeld and Friends, you have to click on the NY map.

I was gonna ask about a sitcom called "Roswell" that I must have missed somehow...

I didn't even catch the others.

S#*!!! I was so looking forward to an air force base/ alien encounter comedy. Maybe like Hogan's Heroes with greys.

I'll always remember that great sitcom 'Baywatch', with it's large, slow-motion, bouncing jokes

Did The Wonder Years take place near LA? I don't remember that.
And Freaks and Geeks was a comedy-drama.

"And Freaks and Geeks was a comedy-drama."

I guess that's why it failed; it tried to be funny.

I'm fairly sure that Benson was supposed to take place in Minnesota.

    Neat map, though.

I don't think "King of the Hill" is in West Texas. Too many trees. It's close enough to Dallas that they're able to travel there pretty often. I always thought it was supposed to be in the Houston area, which would make the Hills neighbors to Reba and her clan.

    March 21st, 2009 at 10:32 pm

And yes, just like in movies, waythehell too many things set in NY/LA.

Marcela, one of the ongoing jokes about "The Simpsons" is that you don't know where Springfield IS.

  30. Evilbeagle
    March 23rd, 2009 at 4:06 am

Noelegy, I always thought King of the Hill was East or Central Texas as well. They seem to reference that general area, so yeah, it can't be East Texas. Not only because of the trees, but if I recall correctly (been a while since I watched it), aren't they a short drive from San Antonio?

Scooter, the less people know about Raytown, MO the better. Didn't know the show was supposed to be based there, but it make sense.

The Simpsons are in Springfield. But they never say which Springfield - almost every state has one. NJ has two!
