The Cardboard Office

Posted by Queuebot in Architecture on March 13, 2009 at 4:07 pm

Designers Joost van Bleiswijk and Alrik Koudenburg created this interesting office for Nothing, a Dutch advertising agency: everything is made from cardboards!

The Nothing team took the idea behind the company name (taking nothing and turning it into something) as the starting point for the physical design of the office; which included creating walls, signage, beams, tables, shelving and even a set of stairs out of cardboard.

    Unless they're hard packed with more cardboard, wouldn't those stairs fail? And...urm, what's up with the albino Mickey Mouse?

    Cardboard starts to stink after a while.

    That is not an albino Miguelito. That is a large Be@rbrick. > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Be@rbrick

    Remember science class when you learned how shapes like arches and eggs could hold a lot of weight? the stairs are probably made of a heavier honeycombed cardboard.

    @Rudy,

    They probably coated it with something. I read about using cardboard as furniture (info here: http://www.instructables.com/id/Cardboard-shelf-for-groceries/), so I don't see why they wouldn't be able to make a complete office out of that.

    I love that, BTW. I think I may consider doing something like that for my next apartment. All full wall of bookcase makes me drool.

    Just don't spill your drink and you'll be fine.

    Oh and no smoking please.
