Good Luck Card Was Bad Luck

By Miss Cellania in Odd News on Mar 4, 2009 at 12:35 pm

An unnamed Mexican chef was detained at the Manchester Airport when he was suspected to be an illegal immigrant to the UK. He claimed to be on a short visit, but a search of his luggage yielded a greeting card that wished him good luck with his “new life in the UK”.

The man, arriving at Manchester Airport from Los Angeles, claimed he was on a brief visit to a friend who was opening a restaurant in England’s North West.

But he admitted planning to work illegally after border officers found the card and pages of Mexican recipes.

My two brothers in law had this happen. One was a guitar player wanting to follow in the footsteps of Hendricks and so went to the UK. A card from the other b-i-l wished him good luck and hope he got work. It was mostly a joke seeing as the guy was there to play music and be on basically a pilgrimage. However, security didn't think it funny and turned him away. He never got to England to complete his odyssey.

I can't help but crack up when I think about how the chef would call his friend and say, "I hate you for writing me a good luck card. You suck."

He just wanted to do a job that the English wouldn't do: cooking nasty, greasy food in lard... oh wait.

    People just don't think ahead.
