An Archive of Droodles

By Stacy in Everything Else on Mar 3, 2009 at 8:27 pm

Kind of sounds like a new designer dog hybrid, but “droodle” is a mix of “doodle” and “riddle,” a simple line drawing with a complicated answer as to what it is. A famous one adorns the cover of Frank Zappa’s album “Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch,” which is exactly what the droodle depicts. They’re silly and almost impossible to guess, but it’s fun to try. I’m really partial to the one on the left. See if you can guess what it is before you click the answer.

I can’t believe it – I actually guessed this. I have a truly demented mind.

hehe, i actually did guess who it was, but it was somewhere more along the lines of “giant charlie brown lying face down in the snow beside a tall building”…. whooops.

HAH! Used to love these things. Years ago had a college roommate who said that the answer to every one was “a cat’s butt”. Wow, turned out that worked a great deal of the time.

One, whose answer was “a spider doing pushups” with 7 lines going around a circle with one longer line going further down, was a good match. Try to picture it!

    “Cat butt”.

Please note, it also works for the example given here.

    See how that works?

I thought it was a hideously deformed toddler passing out in shock at his own reflection.

It must be a pack of cigarettes next to a cat butt. C’mon now, doen’t you see it? Is it just me?

I saw a guy leaving a building, as viewed from above. (the square is the door, and the semicircle is just the building’s doormat).

Wow. I remember ordering the books from the book fair waaaay back when I was in 4th grade. I was always trying to come up with my own. They taught me to think a little more.

I think it’s worth mentioning that Roger Price created Droodles. He’s also the co-creator of Mad Libs!

My dad used to do these for me during church. He had one he did that was a turtle skateboarding. Aw man. These are great.
