Google’s Cafeteria Doesn’t Suck

As if we needed another reason to be insanely jealous of people who work at Google, here’s one more: not only is the food there free, their cafeteria doesn’t suck. Not by a long shot. The Google people periodically bring in guest chefs to cook for a day – even Mario Batali has stopped by. The baker who blogged about her experience is Kelli Bernard, the owner of Amai Tea and Bake House in New York. She brought in several varieties of cookies, including chai almond, green tea and pumpkin chocolate chip. I’m so envious.

I’ve learned over the last 35 years of working that what makes a job “good” is who you work with and who you report to. Good food or salary or anything else can’t make up for dreading seeing your boss or a co-worker.

Sadly, the Chinese dissidents Google has helped get thrown into prison camps will not be eating nearly as well.

Here’s another buzzkill for you, Gail — It’s not free anymore. At least not for most people. Google has been tightening the old belt over the last couple of months and are cutting expenses with impunity…

I’d still give up my crappy job to have the opportunity to buy lunch in Google’s cafeteria. Hell, I’ll even mail cookies to China!
