An embarrassing look at the Wii Fit

[YouTube - Link]
So after the absurdity of waiting forever to get my hands on a Wii Fit, I thought it might work for the site I work for to put together a quick video with a few hat tips to other popular online videos detailing what is most likely the experience of 90% of the people who purchase a Wii Fit in order to lose weight and get into shape.

We just posted it this morning and I think it is one of the things that I am both most proud of and most ashamed of ever filming for the internet. I'm sure once the comments start rolling in, the pride will all be replaced with shame...

And this is why I resisted getting the damn Wii Fit. Or maybe it's because that stupid camera fitness program thing I got years ago for Playstation never did anything but disappoint me and now I'm completely soured on these newfangled fitness gimmicks. P.S. Nice to "meet" you, CK!

Nice to "meet" you too. Yeah the Wii Fit is okay but it's no real workout unless you consciously make it a workout with an insane regimen of mini games.

I've been working out on the wii fit consistently one and half months for 30min a day (that's 30 min total exercise time on that little clock) I've actually lost about 10lbs so far,but combined it with a change in diet. Also, I don't have to go to the chiropractor anymore. It's not a miracle product, but I feel better because of it.

Don't forget that weight fluxuates within a few pounds from day to day, especially if you are overweight. This is due to water weight and all that crazy stuff. The best way to tell if you are losing or gaining weight is check your weight weekly or bi-weekly, or if the game tracks it every day, look at the general trend over that period of time.

Hehe That was a riot. liked the 64 reference.
Kinda reminds me of my first week with my new shiny metal DDR pad, I gained around 1.5 lbs but according to my dietician at the time, I was building muscle... which weighs more than fat so I should see the difference the week after. I was doubtful and depressed but they were right. The following week I was down by 7lbs. /flex!

Also make sure you weigh yourself at the same time every day and at the same point in your daily routine.
If you weighed yourself one week just after getting up in the morning and taking a poo, then the next week weighed yourself after getting up and eating breakfast and NOT after taking a poo, then yeah... there will be some difference of course.

im one of the few that has no interest in the wii.... also, i don't watch the biggest loser show. i was aware of it existing though. however, it was just the other day that i found out it was actually a game show..

skidworth, the beginning was a tribute to N64 kid. search for that video on YouTube.

sadtomato, I'm not saying you cannot get a good workout from it; I'm saying it takes you actually planning out a workout from all the disparate pieces.

the thing is stupid. my niece is 9, has abs of steel from soccer and karate and weighs 52lbs. it called her obese. my sister is a little pudgy and will nottt even step on the thing. she siad "i like my self esteem the way it is thank you very much"lol.

Another meh vote for the Wii. It just feels so mainstream and, well, meh. I also like sitting on my ass when I gun down terrorists. Because that's the wired future of war, anyway.

That was hilarious! I love how people are giving you serious advice and encouragement. Clearly by the N64 reference in the beginning you weren't being entirely serous about the whole thing. I bought mine for the yoga. I thought being instructed on how to contort my body into impossible and quite uncomfortable poses by a cheesy cartoon character would be less humiliating than the oh so zen people in the DVD's that make it look like child's play.... not so much.

Rob
You have to remember that the system is designed for people aged 18 or above despite its appealing cuteness and so the BMI calculations it makes are always going to skew upwards for children because of the assumptions that it makes.

As for the N64 kid reference, I must admit I had forgotten about it.

As for weight fluctuations, I have these "ultra-precise" scales and I tried them before and after going to the toilet and yet they weighed me the same. I'm not so convinced by the accuracy any more.

ted, as noted in my comment above, the opening scene was a tribute to N64 boy (search YouTube for it); when I actually first opened it, I assure you my reaction was rather stoic until I remembered N64 boy, smiled, and had the idea for this video.

skidworth...

How in the world did you work an "I hate obama" comment into this post?!

Also, usage of the word 'sheeple' is extremely annoying. Although, I do like the irony of situation that those who use it are 'following the pack' of others who think they are so clever for using a non-word synonym for 'a conformist'.

I thought it was hilarious! I saw myself in it several times: I also nearly wallowed on it when it arrived (I tracked the shipment of the thing for two days before receiving it) and I also cuss at it faor calling me "overweight" every morning at 6 AM. Screw that board, why does he think I bought the darn wii fit? However, I LOVE the wiif it! I do yoga first (my abs are sore, but it's worth it!), followed by some strength training and end with a 30 minute free run. The first week I gained 1.5 lbs but if you stick with it, you will find that you were gaining muscle under that fat. When you eventually lose the fat (and you will if you do the exercise programs) you will be surprised.

Anyway, to sum up: the vid was hilarious and I love my wii fit!
