i’d say the humans were lucky the whales didn’t capsize them and mistake them for prey… too close

Gotta love that background music :P

I was CRAZY worried about those people on that tiny rubber boat! What were they thinking. Orcas playing with their food within arm’s reach. You guys!!

And oh, yes, absolutely cute and lucky pinguino.

    Sheesh.

That’s amazing! And also a little ridiculous, mostly because of how calm the penguin was in the boat, surrounded by humans. Gotta love untouched nature.

    i’m confused by the feet in open-toed shoes . . .

How did the penguin know to get to the boat for safety? And did it leap into the boat, or did they scoop it out of the water, or what?

The information at the video link is not in English. I’m taking a wild guess and saying this might be off the coast of Argentina.

If I was a penguin running for my life, I would try to jump on any above-water surface, iceberg or weird floating raft.

    Man those orcas looked pissed.

Holy crow!! I agree with gtron and Andrea. ESPECIALLY when the camera showed the whales going under the boat. Oh my gosh, I would have been terrified if I was on that boat.

Wow…that must have been an amazing experience for the people on the boat! I would have loved to have been that close to those Orcas (and the adorable lil penguin) and lived to tell about it…

who doesn’t love a good underdog story?!

the sad part of the story is after this video was taken, the people in the boat ate the penguin.

    Smartest penguin ever.

    @ sw

I’m glad I’m not the only wondering why someone is wearing sandals. :o

That was cute. They actually have a deal, the penguin gets to live on the condition that it lead to whales to tasty human treats

I was most disturbed by the title. Orcas aren’t whales.

Running for it’s life and it still takes time to be a comical web footed little bastard. Penguins. *snort*

Orcas are not whales, and they are not dangerous to humans (especially when they are, erm, sitting in a boat..) either.

The penguin was a cute little fella :) And lucky, too.

Errrrr orcas are dolphins and therefor wales?!??!

    Nov 18th, 2008 at 12:48 am

I’m surprised the orcas didn’t try to tip over their raft to get him!

I’d throw the penguin back in. Maybe it’s hard but it’s nature and their little dingy interrupted. Imagine waiting at Burger King for your Whopper with cheese.. suddenly an orca jumps through the window, intercepting your burger, and making off into the storm drain.

Before this turns into an argument.

    From Wiki

The Orca or Killer Whale (Orcinus orca), less commonly, Blackfish or Seawolf, is the largest species of the oceanic dolphin family.

Orcas are sometimes mistakenly thought of or labeled as whales.

They are speaking Norwegian in the video, and the aria there in look like Norway.

    Nov 18th, 2008 at 11:12 am

It may be a Norwegian expedition (which might explain why someone would wear sandals in the cold), but I doubt you’ll find a wild penguin in Norway.

Didn’t anyone find it ODD that the penguin was SUDDENLY on the boat? No footage of how it got there…

That background music is Prodigy – Fire (Sunrise Version).
