And is there a version for “wetbacks”, too? Seriously guys, it’s all or nothing. I don’t find it funny at all that it’s okay to use racial insults against white people but off limits to everyone else. “Redneck” is clearly a racial slur.
I agree with Bill. It’s acceptable to take cheap shots at lower-class rural stereotypes (black AND white), but you have to be compassionate towards inner-city people or you’re racist (as if there aren’t any white inner-city people). Class, living location, and race are all stupid things to stereotype. Can’t we care treat all people with the same dignity, or separate the individual from their group?
If you ever talk to people who live in small rural towns and such, they often don’t see redneck as a derogatory remark. In fact they are usually proud of it.
There are also a lot of black people who called themselves “niggas” and are proud of it.
I think we should either grow thicker skin or cease stereotyping and using racially divisive words. All or nothing.
Justin: I think there is a difference in using the term “Redneck” and implying that they are a bunch of drunk wife beating racists.
Come on guys. I’m from a small farming town in the south and I still thought it was pretty funny. And yes I’m a whitey. I would also laugh equally at the “wetback” and “hoodrat” version of Wii. I find that most whites are hardly offended by anything that is stereotypical to their race. It’s usually the minorities that are such cry babies about it (unless it’s coming from someone of their own race – Chappelle, Lopez, etc. – then it’s suddenly okay).

(I loved every minute of it though. Does that make me a bad person?
)
Most rednecks love a good redneck joke… ask Jeff Foxworthy.
This was no joke. It’s offensive as hell.
