Practical Latin

Visne saltare? Viam Latam Fungosam scio.

That’s how you say “Do you want to dance? I know the Funky Broadway.” in Latin. Courtesy of MIT, you can learn how to say handy Latin phrases such as:

  • Is that a scroll in your toga, or are you just happy to see me?
  • The designated hitter rule has got to go.
  • Gag me with a spoon!
  • How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

I took latin when I was in high school.
Hard to learn. No wonder nobody’s speaking it anymore ;)

Not via MIT. These were lifted from “Latin For All Occasions”.

I took a semester of vocational college in the vain attempt to become a court reporter (big mistake!). One of the classes involved learning Latin medical terminology.

I was only 17 at the time, surrounded by folks at least 10-20 years older than me. As soon as we grasped enough of the lingo, it was amazing how many of those so-called adults began using their newfound Latin skills…um, “creatively”…

      Of course, I didn’t restrain myself either… ;-)

And Swedish Tommy, that is absolutely disgusting no matter WHAT language you use.

      Quid sub toga est?

      What’s that under your toga?
