Take On Me: The Literal Version

Oh yeah, Take on Me by the Norwegian group a-ha, a big song in 1985. But wait… this song has been altered to match the video! That makes it worth a listen, doesn’t it? -via YesButNoButYes

That's funny. I don't think I've realized before now just how weird the music video for that song is.

Totally what went through my mind when I saw the video originally on an old network called music television. Brilliant work, here.

    Hahaha!

I guess this shows that with a catchy tune you can put any words to it!

The video is a classic, and it wonderful exercise in 'breaking the bounds of reality', esp for an 80s video. (Man, I miss story-telling videos. To many videos now-a-days just show the band playing or artist dancing, or just TnA.)

Anyhow, this parody was great too, :)

Not bad, but really, why does everything have to make sense. Art doesn't. For it's time that video was stunning, and it's still pretty amazing now.

Not to mention that and "The Sun Always Shines on TV" may be the first videos that are actually joined, plot wise. (Korn did similar with "Freak on a Leash" and "Falling Away From Me".)

And god Bunty Bailey was hot.

The homages to that video will go on forever. Justin, Woogie and just-a-guy are right. Great pop tune meets inspired film making.

Speaking of homage, did anyone else notice the original video's use of the ending from Altered States?

I loved that video when I was 12. You youngins just don't understand how innovative this video and MTV was back then. It's sad what it's become.

I'm not sure whether it was funnier before or after I realized that the video was the original. (Oh, the joys of an MTV-deprived childhood...)

I'm going to make a shirt that says "Ass full of pipe wrench." I literally (see that) spit coffee on my keyboard.
