Don Hertzfeldt created Ah, L’Amour in 1995 as an 18-year-old student at the University of California Santa Barabara. It was his first film. Ah, L’Amour has been posted here a couple of times, but the embedded video was always pulled do to licensing rights. Now Atom Films has obtained those rights, so you can enjoy it! Link to Hertzfeld’s site. -Thanks, Katherine!

    "I have money."

The best part is where he stops at Big Bertha, then goes on without talking to her. Shows he's not completely one-sided about the whole love thing.

I love L'Amour. It is possibly my favorite Don Hertzfeldt movie.

I wish someone would also license "The Meaning of Life". That one I would love to see as well.

This is why I can't stand women. They're only good for one thing.

At 1:05 he walks by the ugly fat girl. Totally ignores her, then goes on to the next average girl. The big girl could have been the girl of her dreams, but he didn't give her a chance. That's why I can't stand men. "They're only good for one thing."

The best part is the first "scene" with the hearth!

harsh.cant help but think maybe life in america makes people more harsh maybe women get too much objectification or guys are repressed nerds who express neuroses by making anti women anti love anti relationship animations, though it was a good job just an obvious bit of anti love anti ...

there's nothing wrong with being anti love or anti relationship, if that's the way you want to be. Not everyone can find (or depends on) happiness from others. I can see why it's a puzzling perspective for many though.

Sure, urth, it's all the fault of men.

Miss Orange, did the animation say that the one girl was fat and ugly? Or are you projecting your own impression of beauty on it?

That's why I thought it was a good scene: here's the guy going after the good-looking chicks, and you feel sorry for him. When he shows the "ugly" chick, however, the animator is showing that maybe the stick dude can be just as shallow as the stick chicks he's trying to score with.

Fabulous stereotyping of women… spot on. Especially love the violence and gore. Can’t wait to show this (and try to explain it)to the kids.

I think I saw this at Spike and Mikes twisted animation festival years ago.

...and firithlotiel, it took me a couple of seconds to discover why you are less than three :)

Geeze people, its a cartoon. Why must you dissect it and over analyze its remains? It was cute.

Urth is right, though I think misunderstood slightly. He's not saying something negative against American men OR women. The dating "game" is ridiculous here, for both sides. My guess is that Urth lives outside the US.

This was the first, and until today the only film I'd ever seen of his:

9 minutes long, somewhat loud and not entirely kid-friendly but it IS inventive.
