Imperfection is the Key to Perfect Teeth

By Alex in Fashion, Health on Aug 28, 2008 at 11:14 pm

Is there such a thing as being too perfect? Apparently so, at least in dentistry where perfectly symmetrical and overly white teeth actually make you less beautiful:

Dr. Jeff Golub-Evans, a dentist on the Upper East Side, encourages
patients to allow him to slightly rotate a tooth, or to vary the length of teeth. “What I’ve found is that if someone has perfectly symmetrical features and you put perfectly symmetrical teeth on that face, you ruin their face,” he said.

What? Don’t believe me? Just look at Regis’ teeth!

I know you US Americans like to teasethe Brits about our teeth, quite eroneously incidentally, but those unearthly white choppers a lot of you guys seeem to sport are weird looking, the colour looks like they’ve been painted with liquid paper and they tend to e so large and featurelessly consistant.

They Look like the teeth that Fred From Scooby Doo had.

One massive zinc white one on top and another below.

Polx, couldn’t agree more. it’s almost gross, isn’t it? you brits should keep your crooked teeth (even if that is a stereotype).. you guys have a better judge of character and taste in music, and you’re not all fat and obsessed with your HummerH2′s. thank you.

my cousin got vaneers, and i noticed them IMMEDIATELY. the funny thing was, i never even noticed his teeth before, and i always thought everyone in my family had great smiles. i mean, none of us have particularly white or straight teeth, but we all have great smiles. the first time i saw my cousin after he got the procedure done, it was like he was advertising for a car dealership; they looked sooo fake. that was also the first time i saw vaneers in person (as opposed to those on TV) and they completely turned me off of the whole idea. it looked like he had a mouth full of white chicklets. i’m proud of my stained, slightly crooked teeth, even if i went through 2 years of braces. but they’re MY teeth, dammit! plus, what good is it to “appear” to have good teeth? they may LOOK good, but they could easily be rotting from the inside-out. i choose healthy teeth over pretty ones.

I am a fan of the snaggle tooth. Girls look especially cute when they have a slightly crooked smile or a couple of wonky teeth

    With you 100% there SenorMysterioso.

A Snaggle toothed gal is a treat.

    Perfection is slightly repulsive.

I agree 100%! Girls now days all have parrot mouth. They loose there individuality and all look like their dentist idea of perfection.

A few years ago, half the cast of ‘Scrubs’ got veneers. Seriously, try watching the show now. They look like they have sports mouth guards in.

All the recent tooth-whitening makes that episode of “Friends” where Ross whitens his teeth even funnier. I’m sure a lot of people’s teeth would glow under a blacklight now!

$5000+ for my daughter’s braces – all, apparently, for naught!
