BMW Kinetic Sculpture

By Alex in Art, Video Clips on Jul 8, 2008 at 1:17 am

This is pretty neat: a kinetic sculpture (of steel balls on strings) at the BMW museum. Worth a look-see (it gets good at around 0:50): Hit play or go to Link [YouTube] – Thanks Renata Foucre!

first time I saw that I thought it was magnetic or something… but then I saw the strings and was saddened slightly…. then I watched it again and forgot what I was sad about.

Man, that thing is hypnotic. I could sit there and watch that all day.

That was hypnotic. I like the way it would produce the overall recognizable shape of the cars but I didn’t like the speed in which it took to do this. Perhaps if they sped it up a bit you’d get more “Ooohs” and “Ahhhs” from the crowd.

it would be nice to look at it with a zen-like music in a remote garden. the back noise ruins the magic of it all

I think it’s super cool and a convincing way to show the BMW brand as one that has been able to remain true to itself while constantly evolving.
