nurikabe

Wikipedia explains that the “nurikabe is a yokai, or spirit, from Japanese folklore. It manifests as a wall that impedes or misdirects walking travelers at night. Trying to go around is futile as it extends itself forever. Knocking on the lower part of the wall makes it disappear.” It’s also the inspiration for Super Mario’s Whomp. You can see more photos at Andrew Bell’s site or Flickr gallery. And you can buy a painting or print of the Nurikabe at Bear and Bird Boutique. Via I Heart Cool Stuff.

Woot! I love Andrew’s stuff. I bought some t-shirts and a book from him a while back, and eventually I’ll purchase some of his larger art. Someone here should link to his incredible site: http://www.creaturesinmyhead.com/

No, it’s Bernd das Brot, the depressed loaf of bread on a German children’s series.

There’s an enemy like this in the game Okami. He shows his weak points and you have to hit them in order after they disappear. I sat here for 15 minutes trying to think of why this guy seemed familiar. haha here’s what he looks like in Okami.

I used to work with Andy years ago when we were both at Marvel - and he is really ace. Some of his animation work I saw back then was also exceptional … “Frank The Monkey” I believe it was called.

Thats the cutest darn wall I’ve ever seen. I never thought I’d say that about a wall.

Jason, I was just about to post the same thing… I never could beat the last one. I spent about two hours on it before I threw the controller down and sat in a corner to cry.
