Ticketed for Wearing a Speedo!

Posted by Alex in Crime & Law, Fashion on June 16, 2008 at 6:51 pm

Bob Hezzelwood, aka "Beach Bob" was sitting on the South of Bonita Beach in Florida when he was ticketed … for wearing a speedo!

Beach Bob says that routine was broken up when a Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy issued him a citation for trespassing because the deputy felt Bob’s Speedo swimsuit crossed the line.

Hezzelwood says, "he said you’re going to have to find another beach and wrote a trespass notice."

Other local beach goers told WINK News that they’ve never had a problem with Bob’s Speedo. "He was ticketed for wearing a speedo, which was evidently too visual for the police officer," Chip Parfet said. "As far as I’m concerned, I’ve seen bikinis that show a lot more."

how ridiculous! he wasn't even in that sheriff's county. Did he ticket women in thongs?

He probably got ticketed because the officer didn't want to look at him. Personally, I wouldn't want to see that on the beach. He looks like an overdone turkey. I wonder how many brushes with skin cancer he's had already.

Plus, he's a little too old to be a 'beach bum' or whatever.

Then again, that's Florida for you. Ha! everything in that picture is so typcial Florida.

Such a ridiculous country America is.

Got real hang-ups about sex, that is why America abuses it.

i would take it to court, this is just wrong. (i can understand the cop's point of view, speedo's are wrong!)

I'm not a fan of a man in a Speedo, no matter what he looks like, but really... shouldn't the cops be out doing something useful, like fighting actual crime?

    America is ridiculous.

This isn't the first news article about some idiot to come out of Florida...

How come most US-Americans have such an speedo aversion. Homophobia? I would say that speedos are very normal beach clothing at european beaches worn by heterosexuals.
Those basketball pants, preferred in the US, are rare.
Anyhow, I felt quite uncomfortable on my frist day playing beach volleyball in Galveston, TX in my normal european outfit... :)

Bikinis may show a lot more, but they're showing a lot more of something else.

Uptight, but if enough people are grossed out by it... can't really blame em.

Good! Start ticking all of them. Nothing ruins my appetite at the beach like some disgusting out-of-shape slob in a speedo. Kudos to the cop!

They shoulda tasered him. A bit of involuntary electrical muscle movement is good for tightening up the flab.

I get so sick of people who have double standards for women, ticket every woman who wears thongs and bikini bottoms as well. Not like us women didn't spend a good portion of time fighting for equal rights and we are still fighting for it. So go on! A bikini bottom is no different than a speedo.

    @ LaLa and Jet

People are rediculous. America does not have a monopoly on it.

Funny creative people can get when trying to work in an 'America sucks' comment.

you know for a country that is pretty much hip deep in porn and nudie bars, the US seems a very puritanical place.

Speedos are the norm in Europe.

There are some public pools in Europe that do not even allow the American-style knee length skirt most men and boys wear here.

Where do we get off telling people their bodies are gross and shouldn't be seen in public? If only hot people were allowed to wear swimsuits the beaches would be populated with the fully clothed.

And "too old to be a beach bum?" People have to work their whole lives, often at jobs they hate, so that they can earn the right to do what they love. At what age should people not be allowed to go to the beach?

I don't really understand how choice of clothing can constitute trespassing.

@Anon: "A bikini bottom is no different than a speedo."

Well, it actually is. Do you know what's inside them?

A bikini bottom covers things. A Speedo just cling-wraps and defines things. There's a difference.

I don't understand why men who wear Speedos don't just find a nude beach and be done with it. It's almost like they want to be naked anyway and they're just "covering up" because it's the law.

I'd never be caught dead in those, but banning them sets a poor precedent for the lovely ladies who want to flaunt it. All in all, I'm for less clothing on beaches. As long as it covers your junk, its safe enough for a family-friendly beach.

Who the hell wears a Speedo anymore?

I have a bright green one that I wear on vacation in countries where no one recognizes me.

@ Neatoramawontsendmeapassword: Actually, a better comparison is a male's Speedo vs. a female's bikini top. There's all kinds of clinging and defining going on there, and no one seems to mind one bit.

I'm no fan of Speedos, but a citation? For "trespassing"? Are you kidding me? Find some real crime to fight.

And WTF with all the Florida hate? It's not like we all hang out at the beach every day, jeeze. Personally I hate the beach, and I grew up in Daytona.

    @Neatoramawontsendmeapassword

I fail to see your point... Camel toes and wedgies aren't all that different.

Just because a guy wears it shouldn't make a difference.
