Virgle: Branson and Google Colonizes Mars

By Robert Birming in Travel on Apr 1, 2008 at 1:13 am

Earth has issues, and it’s time humanity got started on a Plan B. So, starting in 2014, Virgin founder Richard Branson and Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin will be leading hundreds of users on one of the grandest adventures in human history: Project Virgle, the first permanent human colony on Mars.

The exciting Virgle project was announced today at the Official Google Blog.

Yay! President Bush’s vision arrives 20 years EARLY:

“…human missions to Mars and to worlds beyond. (APPLAUSE)”

My favorite so far: BBC found flying penguins or YouTube’s featured videos (you KNOW what they did!)

As far as Neatorama, I don’t think I’ll post any April Fool’s joke post this year ;)

Happy April Fool’s Day to you, GeekAlerts (do they celebrate it in Sweden?)

“Earth has issues” because we made it have issues, we polluted and ruined it. And if we cant fix the problems here to make earth habitable we are going to make another planet habitable? lol

Spaghetti in trees was a good April fool. It’s a shame these days trhey are things which would actually improve humankind. I mean, hohoho, some of the richest men on Earth have done something to benefit humanity – no, not really, only kidding. Hohoho.

    Not so funny really.

funny story about his birthday- he was supposed to be born on march 28, but played a trick on my mom and came three days later. he was scheming before he was even alive! have a great day everyone.

A joke should have an element of humour. This one seems very sad. It’s a shame they wouldn’t contribute to something that monumental.

Would that it were genuine. I think the previous post about one way trips to mars proved that there are more than a few of us who are willing to take the trip

Good old Google. Even when they’re not serious I get a kick out of them. And this joke notwithstanding, they really are the future of the American corporation.

They weren’t very excited in their video that they used to describe the trip. I mean, if you’re going to sell a joke, really sell it. The page looked good, but the video was a dead giveaway even if you’re braindead.

This scares me a bit. Google will take over the world and everyone knows it but we don’t care because their logo is so cool.

Google is well known for its April 1st pranks, but I wish this one wasn’t a prank.

If this isn’t a joke I would be more inclined to “go down with the ship”. I’m to settled on this planet to go looking for a new one. Plus you have all the crazy new neighbors, constant sandstorms, and the strange reddish hue everywhere. If that attracted me I would move to Nevada.

Even my hip hop blog Highbrid Nation had to report on project Virgle. If it is indeed real, then it is huge and is major in the area of space exploration. However I fear that it is indeed and elaborate April Fool’s Day hoax. I guess we’ll know for sure if announcements continue after today. Personally I’d love to see the two companies team up considering what they already have done with the Lunar X Prize and Virgin Galactic.

I saw a presentation by they guy who started Space Adventures and he made some pretty serious and crazy sounding predictions, for example he said in 50 years there will be a “Mayflower” ship with humans leaving earth forever to colonize another planet which they wont even see but their grandkids will see… I don’t know, I highly doubt that happening, maybe just because I would never go but still…
But anyway virgin galactic doesn’t even have a ship capable of going to Mars… I don’t think anyone does yet

maybe they will put an apple logo on it and everyone up there will be more creative.

I’m on Mars right now and I gotta tell you, it’s not what it’s cracked up to be. Just the other day we were talking about colonizing Earth.

this is why noone should get on the internet on april 1.

Shame on you neatorama. This is lame, and it will always be lame. And the fact that you were just itching to put it up at the stroke of midnight makes it extra lame.

Stick to REAL stories. Just cause everyone told you to lie today doesn’t mean you have to. Perhaps you should go jump off of a bridge.

That would be quite the adventure to go to mars. I don’t think I’d want to stay there though… It would be cold and lonely…
