(John) Calvin and (Thomas) Hobbes

Nina Matsumoto of Space Coyote (of the Simpsonzu fame, blogged on Neatorama here), made another fan art. This time, it’s her take of Bill Watterson’s classic comic Calvin and Hobbes:

Few historians know of the heartwarming friendship between French Reformation theologian John Calvin and English political philosopher Thomas Hobbes, the latter of whom may or may not have been real, considering he was not even born yet.

No extras in the series as far as I'm aware. I think I recall correctly that he had nasty legal battles with syndicates from day one. I'm sure that made quitting easy. And from what I've read, he really put an inordinate amount of time (and energy) into C&H. I'm sure he couldn't wait to live a relaxed retired life, with no deadlines, no editors, no syndicates, etc.

I do agree that he was in his prime. I hope he's writing at all; pen-and-paper journaling, anything. I hold this guy in the utmost respect, and I hope he knows how beloved he is. This man did more to educate me than public school ever did.

A very depressing day in my life was the day I finished the last book. Knowing that I'd read *every* Calvin and Hobbes ever made...I mourned them as if they'd died.

I recently read an amusing yet intriguing essay comparing C&H to Tyler Durden&Friend from Fight Club. Check it out
