My Paper Mind, a “Stratastencil” Animation

By Alex in Art, Video Clips on Feb 26, 2008 at 1:38 am

My Paper Mind is a fantastic short film by Javan Ivy. It is made with an experimental animation technique he called "Stratastencil," where stacks of differentially cut paper are used as "frames" in the film. The 30 or so second animation above took about 18 hours to make.

I wish I had the patience to do something like this…
I used to do origami but I always got annoyed with the tiny folds and did it too fast. My cranes always just looked like a scrunched up bit of paper…

I think this just replaced stop-motion as my new “WOW” animation.

    Short and sweet.
Not long and full of itself. Very nice.
