Shatner Never Watched Star Trek!

Whaaaaaa? William Shatner admitted that he’s never watched Star Trek!

The 76-year-old actor said he had seen neither the cult science-fiction television programme nor any of the films which propelled him to fame.

He said he hated watching himself perform on screen, saying “I suck”.

Speaking in an interview for his internet video blog with his daughter Lisabeth, he said: “I never watched Star Trek.

“I have not even seen any of the Star Trek movies. I don’t watch myself.

“When I direct and have to look at filmed scenes of myself, I suck.”

He said he had also not watched any of his performances playing a lawyer in Boston Legal, the television series, for which he won an Emmy and a Golden Globe award. Shatner added that he did not have any memorabilia from Star Trek either.

At least he admits he can’t act. But why must he inflict it on the rest of us?

My BS detector just picked up klingons around Uranus! So William Shatner never went to any of the film premiers? He directed Star Trek V for crying out loud. No wonder it sucked if he didn’t watch any of the footage. I sense a case of sour grapes as he hasn’t been asked to be in Trek XI.

No idea if Shatner’s being truthful, but it’s my understanding a lot of actors don’t particularly enjoy watching their finished work. (Michael Caine on Jaws: The Revenge: “I have never seen the film, but by all accounts it was terrible. However I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific.”)

And Shatner’s wrong. He doesn’t suck, he’s just incredibly egotistical and lazy. They are not the same thing…

He was fine-looking back in the day. If I was a space-alien babe, I’d definitely do him.

If you “suck” at something, one of the best ways to improve is to examine your own work with a critical eye. Such an evaluation can reveal areas that can be improved, reducing the overall suckiness. If Shatner really never viewed his own finished work (I can’t blame him for not watching TJ Hooker), it is rather like a cook who never tastes his own meals. They will remain bland, at best.

This kind of makes me hate him. How disrespectful to all the people who enjoy the Star Trek saga. Blah. What a jerk.

Shatner’s hammy acting, with his over-the-top performances, is one of the reasons I like Star Trek so much.

I hope he watches his “Price Line Negotiator” Ads because God help me I start foaming in the mouth whenever that comes on when I’m watching TV.

He’s being too hard on himself. If you compare the completely wooden acting styles of Keanu Reeves, Kevin Costner and a ton more - William Shatner absolutely shines. I quite like what he brought to the series as much as I like the series itself. Star Trek:TOS wouldn’t have been the classic it IS without him.

Anyway, there are many, many actors who don’t view their own work and are highly critical of themselves for whatever reasons. His career hasn’t suffered because of it.

    I don’t care. Star Trek rocks!! Everything but DS9. I didn’t care for that series. Also, I can’t believe he’s 74.
