Processing Music Videos by Robert Hodgin

By Alex in Art, Music, Video Clips on Feb 1, 2008 at 6:07 pm

Remember the old trippy display of Windows Media Player? Well, these videos by Robert Hodgin of Flight 404 are like that but infinitely better.

I’m going to show you two of my favorites:

Magnetic Ink ("In an Instant" from The Flashbulb’s album Red Extensions of Me)

Solar ("Warren" from The Flashbulb’s album These Open Fields)

These videos were made with open-source software Processing, with audio from The FlashbulbThanks KM Alexander!

These really are beautiful. It’s too bad they can’t be rendered in real time so they could be used as a media player type visualizer. He mentions one on his site that took 30 hours to render :/

they’re rather like hans jenny’s ‘cymatics’ experiments crossed with that ultra high-speed footage of the very first nano-seconds of a neuclear test. oh, and a bit of sun-spot/solar flare action thrown in… which puts them rather at odds with the music wouldn’t you say? i think i’m a bit sleep deprived.
