The Cloud

By Robert Birming in Architecture on Nov 18, 2007 at 7:48 am

The Cloud is Nadim Karam’s design concept for a resort city elevated 300 metres in the air and supported on slanting legs resembling rain.

Where it’s supposed to be located? Yes, you guessed it: in Dubai.

Nadim Karam obviously read “Invisible Cities” by Italo Calvino. If he didn’t, then this is just a crazy coincidence. This “city in the sky” is exactly the city called “baucus” (sp?) in Calvino’s book. It is a very pleasant read which paves a nice path to the surreal imagination.

I wonder if they get earthquakes… because a structure like that is just asking for damage.
