150_waterbearTardigrades (water bears or moss piglets) are tiny creatures who can survive being frozen, boiled, dehydrated, and irradiated. They can even survive in the vaccuum of space! There are over 900 species of water bears; see some at Dark Roasted Blend. Link

evidently, if i remember college biology correctly, they are also able to undergo parthenogenesis, also known as reproducing without male input.

Curiously, dropping them in a glass of Red Bull will kill them instantly. They also refuse to live on Retro Bowling Shirts.

There is also a project to see the effect of space on tardigrades. The project is cutely named TARDIS (Tardigrades in Space).

Fly them to the moon, let them walk among the stars. Let’s find out if these guys will live on Jupiter or Mars.
