The Crooked House pub in England will make you stagger after only one drink… or none at all! The foundation of the building has shifted over time due to underground mining. Buttressing stopped the damage, but there is a 15% tilt left behind. Link -via Grow-A-Brain

For several years in Seattle, just off I-5 there was a house which had started to lean in a similar fashion when its foundation was undermined by flooding. In that case, it was too severe (and too damaged) to correct, and the house sat abandoned for quite a while before finally being demolished.

What a lot of people don’t realize is the incredible plasticity of mortar. Given twenty years of a very slow and strong force, you could bend a brick wall double without the mortar cracking once.
